High Blood Cholestrol – Home Remedy

Cholesterol is one of the essential ingredients of the body and is generally produced in the liver. However, about twenty to thirty per cent generally comes from the food we eat. It is measured in milligrams per 100 millimeters of blood. The normal level of cholesterol varies between 150 – 200 mg per 100 ml. In blood, cholesterol occurs in combination with certain lipids (fats), hence, known as lipoproteins.

Types of lipoproteins
1. Low density lipoprotein (LDL)
2. High density lipoprotein (HDL)

Low density lipoprotein is considered harmful and is associated with cholesterol deposits in blood vessels. It can contribute to problems such as heart disease, stroke. On the other hand, high density lipoprotein plays a salutary role by helping remove cholesterol from circulation and thereby reducing the risk of heart disease. When the ratio of LDL to the total cholesterol becomes high, it increases the risk of arterial damage and heart disease.

1. Excessive smoking and alcohol consumption.
2. Eating high fat diet.
3. Obesity.
4. Heredity factors.
5. Stress and over work load.
6. Diseases like diabetes mellitus, kidney disease, liver disease, or hypothyroidism.

1. Take lecithin rich diet like egg yolk, vegetable oils, wholegrain cereals, soyabeans, and unpasturised milk. With proper intake of lecithin, cholesterol cannot build up against the walls of the arteries and veins. It is one of the most effective cholesterol lowering diets.
2. Ginger reduces the cholesterol and thins the blood improving circulation.
3. Sunflower seeds contain a considerable quantity of linoleic acid, which is the fat useful in reducing cholesterol deposits on the walls of arteries.
4. Vitamins B6, choline, and inositol are mostly effective in reducing the level of blood cholesterol. Wheat germ, yeast, or vitamin B extracted from bran contains high capacity of these vitamins. Vitamin E also raises blood lecithin and reduces cholesterol. The patient must take moderate quantities of vitamin E-rich foods such as sunflower seeds, safflower, soyabean oils, butter, and sprouted seed and grains.
5. Add one teaspoon of honey and one teaspoon of lime juice in one cup of hot water. Take it daily in morning for natural lowering cholesterol.
6. Take onion juice to reduce cholesterol, clean the blood, and regulate the heart.
7. Add a teaspoon of methi powder in a glass of water. Take it empty stomach for one month.
8. An Ayurvedic drug Guggul is considered to be the best for cholesterol reducing regimen. It is considered that Guggulu reduces LDL by 35% and increases the HDL by 20% in just 12 weeks if taken regular and with instruction.
9. Take fenugreek seeds to control high serum cholesterol.
10. Boil two tablespoons of dry seeds of coriander in a glass of water and strain the decoction after cooling twice a day.

1. Stay away from rich food.
2. Avoid food via animal origin; Avoid palm and coconut oil.
3. Drink atleast 10 glasses of water daily.
4. Regular physical exercise also plays a significant role in lowering LDL cholesterol and in raising the level of protective HDL.
