Rheumatism pertains whole range of conditions, all of which cause pain. It refers to an acute or chronic illness that is characterized with pain and swelling of muscles, joints and tissues. It is more common in middle aged and elderly people.

CAUSES OF RHEUMATISM

– Presence of toxic waste products in blood.
– Infections.
– Liberal consumption of meat, white bread and refined cereals leaves a large residue of toxic wastes.
– Toxic substances get concentrated around joints and bony structure where they form the basis of rheumatism.
– Heredity.
– Hormonal Imbalance.
– Tooth infection.

SYMPTOMS OF RHEUMATISM

– Fever.
– Intense soreness.
– Pain.
– In acute pain, area becomes very sensitive that even the weight of bed clothing aggravates the pain.
– In chronic muscular rheumatism, pain and stiffness in affected muscles.
– In chronic articular rheumatism, pain and stiffness in affected joints with swelling.
– Loss of sleep.

REMEDIES FOR RHEUMATISM

– Take one or two tsp of raw potato juice before meals. It helps to eliminate toxic condition and relieve rheumatism.
– Dissolve 2 tsp each of apple cider vinegar and honey and take twice a day.
– Juice of two or three lemons should be taken each day.
– Drink good amount of water.
– A cup of bitter gourd juice mixed with one tsp of honey should be taken daily.
– Eat 5-6 walnuts daily. Take care to chew the Walnuts really well.
– Powder the celery seeds and add 1 tsp to a cup of hot water and drink before meals.
– Fresh prepared carrot juice is good for patient suffering from rheumatism.
– Include foods rich in calcium, magnesium and vitamin C in the diet.
– A tsp of pounded green stalks of rhubarb with equal quantity of sugar should be taken three or
four times a day.

THINGS TO AVOID

– Avoid sour foods.
– Do not eat cold fruits.
– Junk, Spicy and oily food should be restricted.
– Meat and fish.
– Refined cereals.
– Indigestible and highly seasoned foods.
– Tea and Coffee.
– Alcohol.

DIETARY CONSIDERATIONS

– Short fast of orange juice and water for 3-4 days.
– Patient should be placed on a restricted diet for 14 days which includes orange or grapefruit for breakfast, raw salad of seasonal vegetables with figs, dates, prunes, raisins for lunch, one or two steamed vegetables for dinner.
– After this, a well balanced diet should be followed.
