What are some of the symptoms of cancer of the Pancreas?

Pancreatic cancer is one of the most aggressive cancers. It occurs when there is an abnormal growth of the cancerous cells which slowly form lumps on the pancreas duct. The existence of pancreas cancer, also called malignant neoplasm, is very rarely detected in the earlier stages (without hunting for it) and hence it is also known as a silent killer. Pancreas contains two glands namely endocrine glands which are responsible for producing hormones like insulin and the second one is the exocrine glands that are responsible for excreting digestive juices which help promote digestion. The pancreatic cancer may affect any of these two glands. A person suffering from pancreatic cancer may face some problems which may act as symptoms for pancreas cancer. Normally, people ignore these symptoms by relating them to less dangerous and less commonly occurring diseases. This ignorance leads to bad results and sometimes makes the surgery of the tumor impossible. Hence people getting the below mentioned symptoms must get their diagnosis done so that they can prevent the pancreas cancer to lead to severe stages. Here we will be discussing about some symptoms which show the existence of pancreas cancer.
• The first and the most common symptom showing the existence of pancreas cancer is a severe abdominal or back pain and sometimes both. Mostly the pain persists in the upper part of the abdomen and the pain may grow severely if the patient is lying down and also after a few hours of taking meal. The reason for this abdomen pain is that the tumor inside the pancreas starts increasing in size and this increase in size gradually leads the tumor pushing the surroundings of other organs hence causing the severe pain.
• Jaundice is another very common symptom for patients suffering from pancreas cancer. The occurrence of jaundice is because of the bile entering into the bloodstream through the liver. Pancreas is divided in various parts and one of its parts is the head portion. When the tumor grows in the head portion it tends to block the bile duct. This blockage leads the bile to enter the bloodstream through the liver gradually causing the yellowness of the skin and eyes as well as lightening the color of the stools.
• People suffering from pancreas cancer also tend to vomit at regular intervals and suffer from nausea. This is caused due to the growth in tumor blocking the digestive tract or even the bile duct.
• Another sign indicating the existence of pancreas cancer is the Trousseau. This is caused when portal blood vessels, superficial veins or deep veins of the extremities suffer from the formation of the blood clots inside them.
• People also face the problem of diabetes when attacked by the pancreatic cancer. This may happen at a very early stage and sometimes even before the cancer is diagnosed. Diabetes is the increase in the blood sugar level and hence is caused due to the improper secretion of the insulin by the endocrine gland.
• Many of the pancreas cancer patients often suffer a rapid weight loss as well as a loss in appetite (also called anorexia). Almost all cancers have weight loss as one of the symptoms hence the exact problem can only be confirmed after the proper diagnosis of the patient’s body is done. Weight loss mainly occurs due to the tumor growing in the pancreas often interferes with the digestive system of the body hence causing the patient to eat less and lose weight.
• Other symptoms through which the existence of pancreatic cancer may be detected include diarrhea, chills, clinical depression, itching, migratory thrombophlebitis and venous thrombosis.
