What is Dandruff?
• Dandruff refers to the condition of the skin wherein shiny, silvery scales separate from the scalp and collect a midst the hair.
• There are two main types of dandruff, namely dry dandruff and oily dandruff.
• Those with an oily skin tend to suffer from oily dandruff.
• Those with dry skin suffer from dry dandruff.
• Dandruff causes itching on your forehead and face as it settles on your skin.

• Dandruff can be removed by massaging the hair for half an hour with curd.
• This curd must have been kept in the open for three days.
• Mix a few drops of lime juice mixed with Indian gooseberry juice every night, before going to bed.
• Dilute cider vinegar with an equal quantity of water and dab this on to the hair with cotton wool in between shampooing.
• Cider vinegar added to the final rinsing water after shampooing also helps to treat dandruff.

Dietaries for Dandruff
– All-fruit diet with three meals a day of juicy fruits.
• Diet plays an important role in the treatment of dandruff.
• The patient should resort to an all-fruit diet.
• Do this for about five days.
• Take three meals a day of juicy fruits.

– Avoid citrus fruits, bananas, dried, stewed or tinned fruits.

– Well-balanced diet
• After the all-fruit diet, the patient should gradually adopt a well-balanced diet
• The emphasis should be on raw foods, especially fresh fruits and vegetables.
• Short periods of an all-fruit diet should be taken for three days at monthly intervals
• Do this until the skin’s condition improves.

– Foods that should all be avoided are:
• Meats
• Sugar
• White flour
• Strong tea or coffee
• Condiments
• Pickles
• Refined and processed foods

– Other dietary measures
• Avoid milk, dairy products, sea foods, animal proteins and fatty foods.
• Tomatoes, oranges, lemons, tamarind, etc. which contain acidic content, must be avoided.
• Green vegetables are considered best in fighting the dandruff.
• Do not take fermented foods and baked products like breads, cheese, wine and all kinds of alcohol.
• Include juicy fruits, but not citrus fruits as Vitamin C is not good for persons who are having dandruff.
• Banana is not referred for people suffering from severe dandruff.
• Drink lots of water and fresh fruit juice.

• Keep hair and scalp clean to avoid accumulation of dead cells.
• Hair should be brushed daily to improve circulation.
