What is meant by Freckles?

• Freckles may be described as flat, round, dark colored spots.
• These spots range in size from about 2mm to 4mm.
• Freckles could be the result of pigment precipitation in one particular place.
• The skin surrounding the spot is lighter in color.
• Freckles may be hereditary.
• Freckles are usually of no medical consequence.
• They do not cause any problems.
• Freckles are sensitive to the UV rays of sunlight.
• They appear more prominent during or after exposure to sunlight.

Types of Freckles

There are two basic types of freckles:
Ephelides: These are flat red or light-brown spots that typically appear in the summer months. They usually fade away in the winter.
Lentigines: Lentigines may be small tan, brown or black spot which is darker than an ephelide and they do not fade in winter.

Causes for Freckles

• Freckles are passed on genetically.
• Rare disorders such as Xeroderma Pigmentosum.
• Increased sensitivity to ultraviolet rays leading to freckles.
• Prolonged exposure to sunlight.
• Hormonal imbalance could cause freckles.

Home Remedies for Freckles

1. Honey
• This is helpful in treating almost all types of skin problems, including freckles.
• A crushed mixture of honey and red wine is helpful.
• This can reduce the appearance of brown spots on the skin if taken regularly.
• Take it at least once in a week.

2. Lemon juice
• Lemon contains acid that can function as a natural bleaching ingredient.
• Use it regularly.
• Lemon juice can be used to treat and lighten skin.
• Lemon also contains vitamin C which can fight free radicals and acne.
• Squeeze a lemon and then its juice.
• Dip the cotton into the juice and then apply to entire face.
• Let it stands about 20 minutes.
• Rinse with water.
• Apply a moisturizing cream afterwards.
• Avoid exposure to direct sunlight.

3. Turmeric
• Turmeric is very beneficial to lighten the skin and blemish freckles.
• Mix turmeric powder with yogurt and flour.
• Stir them until smooth.
• Then apply on the face.
• Let it stands for 30 minutes.
• Then wash with warm towels.
• Apply moisturizing cream after this therapy.

4. Acid cream
• Acid cream contains lactic acid.
• This serves as a mild exfoliating and lightening the skin without causing irritation.
• Apply a thick layer of acid cream on affected areas of the face.
• Let it stand for about 30 minutes.
• Then wash by using a wet tissue or towel.
• Apply moisturizing cream or lotion.

5. Avoid excessive sun exposure. Use SPF 15 or higher sunscreen.
6. Consult a dermatologist to get proper treatment.

7. Sour cream
• Apply sour cream on your face.
• Do not rinse this mask off completely.
• Gently wipe off with a soft tissue.
• Top it up with a moisturizer.

8. Castor oil
• Apply odorless castor oil or vitamin E at night prior to going to bed.
