What are Respiratory Diseases?

• Diseases affecting the respiratory system of the body are referred to as Respiratory Diseases.
• They can be acute or chronic in nature.
• Acute Respiratory Infections are quite common, especially in young children.
• Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary/ Lung Disease (COPD) are a combination of chronic Respiratory disorders and Emphysema.
• Respiratory disorders are characterized by the inflammation of the main air passages resulting in breathing difficulties.
• Respiratory infections caused by bacterial infection are generally cured by antibiotics.
• The same antibiotics are rendered ineffective in case of viral infections.

Causes of Respiratory Diseases

• Acute Respiratory Infections are usually caused by viral infections.
• These infections can prove to be fatal for children under the age of five.
• Exposure to certain elements can be held responsible for causing respiratory troubles like:
– Smoke
– Dust
– Mists
– Fumes
– Other industrial wastes
• Tobacco abuse
• Cigarette smoking
• Environmental pollution
• Hereditary factors

9. Licorice root tea
• Take a cup of hot water and put half a teaspoon of licorice root tea in it and wait for 10 minutes.

10. Cloves
• Boil 4-5 cloves in 125 ml of water.
• Add one teaspoonful of honey and drink the mixture twice or thrice a day.

11. Spiegel seeds
• Take 1-2 teaspoonfuls of Spiegel seed with warm water twice a day.
• This will help in minimizing respiratory disorders attacks.
• This is considered as an effective respiratory disorders remedy.

12. Dry grapes (raisins)
• Soak dry grapes in water at night and keep in cold milk for half an hour and chew them.
• In the remaining water add a little sugar and drink it.

13. Powder of ginger and pepper and honey
• Mix one gram of dry ginger powder and one gram of black pepper in one teaspoon of molasses of honey.

14. Borax

• Take half gram to one gram of it twice or thrice with honey or warm water.

15. Honey and olive oil
• Boil one teaspoon of pure honey, 1 teaspoon of olive oil, half a cup of milk, and some garlic clove.

16. Fenugreek seeds
• Boil some fenugreek seeds in 250 ml of water.
• Remove from flame when one-third of it is left.
• Add one teaspoonful of ginger juice and one teaspoonful of honey in it.

17. Turmeric and honey
• Turmeric can be taken along with honey in the morning on empty stomach to reduce the intensity of attack.

18. Fennel seeds
• Regular chewing of fennel helps expel infected mucous from the chest. This helps in preventing respiratory disorders attacks.

19. Dry pomegranate
• Peel dry pomegranate and keep them in a jar.
• Boil two raisins and some part of the peel in 250 ml of milk.

20. Linseeds
• Boil 20 grams of linseed in 300 grams of water.
• When one-third of water is left, sieve and add 10 grams of sugar candy.

21. Essential oil of juniper
• A few drops in hot water can act as good inhalant.
• It should not be used undiluted on the skin or handkerchief.

22. Chicory
• Chicory or endive is another effective home remedy for respiratory disorders.
• The powder of the dry root of this herb should be given in doses of half a teaspoon mixed with one teaspoonful of honey three times a day.
• It is a very useful expectorant in chronic respiratory disorders.
