• The shoulder is an important part of the body because it is the most movable joint
• The shoulder is also an unstable joint because of its range-of–motion.
• This joint is an asset for everyday activities like washing, lifting objects, swimming or working in the garden.
• It is often susceptible to injury and overuse.
• The ball of the upper arm is larger than the socket of the shoulder and hence more susceptible to injury.
• Shoulder pain may also occur because of injury to the muscles, tendons and ligaments in the shoulder.
• The shoulder consists of a group structures – bones, ligaments and muscles in the joint region.

Causes of Shoulder Pain

• Dislocation
• Separation
• Bursitis
• Impingement syndrome
• Tendonitis of the shoulder
• A rotator cuff tear
• Frozen shoulder
• Fracture

Diet for Shoulder pain

1. Avoid Purine and Acid Producing Foods
The patient should avoid all purine and uric acid-producing foods like
• All meats
• Eggs
• Fish
• Tea
• Coffee
• Sugar
• White flour
• Canned, processed, and fried foods
• Raw vegetable juices are useful
• A cocktail of carrot, beetroot and cucumber juice seems to be effective.
• Add 100 ml of beetroot and 100 ml of cucumber juice to 300 ml of carrot juice
• Consume it on a daily basis.

2. Vegetables that need to be avoided are:
• Spinach
• Asparagus
• Cauliflower
• Legumes like beans, lentils and peas
• Mushrooms
• Oatmeal
• Yeast products
• White flour
• Bakery products

3. Fast of Orange Juice and Water
• For an acute attack, there is no better remedy than a fast of orange juice and water.
• In severe cases, it is best to undertake a series of short fasts for three days.
• The above is better than rather than one long fast.

4. All Fruit Diet
The patient must adopt an all fruit diet for three or four days.

5. Natural Food diet
A well-balanced diet of natural foods, with emphasis on fresh fruits, raw vegetables, and sprouts can be adopted thereafter.

Other Treatments for Shoulder Pain

1. Warm Water Enema
• A warm-water enema should be used daily.
• This will help to cleanse the bowels during this period.

2. Epsom Salt Bath
• Epsom salts foot baths should be taken twice daily.
• About 250 gm – 500gm of these salts may be added to hot water.
• Full Epsom salt baths should also be taken three times a week.
• The baths may be reduced to two per week later.

3. Cold Packs, Fresh Air, Exercise, Reduced Stress
• Cold packs should be applied to the affected joints at night.
• This will be beneficial.
• Fresh air and outdoor exercise are also essential.
• The patient should eliminate stress.
