Exercise-induced asthma (EIA) arises due to strenuous activity. Allergy based asthma is the common type of asthma that is prevalent mostly.The allergies that trigger asthma are known to be inherited. The allergy triggers the sensitivity of the immune system.

An allergist usually suggests:
– Skin allergy test,
– Environmental control actors
– Antihistamine medicines
• An antihistamine medication helps to block the histamine release thereby reducing allergy in the body.
• Nasal steroids can also be prescribed in order to block allergic inflammation in the nose.
• An allergist can sometimes prescribe immuno-therapy.
• These are a couple of allergy shots which enable the body not to respond to particular allergens.
• This is also referred to as skin allergy test.

Skin testing for allergies

Skin testing is used for allergies to recognize the symptoms of allergy and thereby the cause of allergy. It is often performed by:
• Application of an allergen extract on a region of skin.
• To expose the skin, prick or scratch the skin.
• Examining and analyse the skin’s reaction.
To determine an allergy’s cause, allergists usually do skin tests in one of two ways:
• On the skin area, a drop of allergen which is in a purified liquid form is dropped.
• This region is pricked using a pricking device.
• A tiny quantity of allergen is injected right below the skin.
• This prick is not very painful but does sting a bit.
• It is left to be seen after 15 minutes.
• If a bump appears in this region which is rounded by redness then the test is considered to be positive.

Asthma Categories

• The extent of severity of asthma, it is divided into 4 main categories.
• Each category uses a different method of treatment.
• Every person with asthma should follow an asthma action plan in order to control symptoms.

1. Mild intermittent asthma
Symptoms
– Wheezing
– Coughing
– Shortness of breath
• These symptoms occur no more than twice a week.
• This type is said to have mild intermittent asthma. Symptoms of flare-ups are rare.
• Number of attacks pertaining is one or two.
• These signs can be mild and observed especially at night.

2. Mild persistent asthma
– Wheezing
– Coughing
– Shortness of breath
• These symptoms arise one or two times per week.
• This type is also referred to as asthma that is mild and also persistent.
• Symptoms usually occur at least twice a month at night.
• Flare-ups may disrupt normal physical activity.

3. Moderate persistent asthma
• This type of moderate persistent asthma has daily symptoms.
• They require daily medication.
• Nighttime symptoms occur more than once a week.
• Flare-ups occur more than twice a week.
• They last for several days.
• They usually disrupt normal physical activity.

4. Severe persistent asthma
• Severe persistent asthma has continuous symptoms.
• They tend to have frequent flare-ups.
• These symptoms may require emergency treatment.
• Sometimes even hospitalization is required.
• Persons have frequent symptoms at night.
• They can handle only limited physical activity.
