Where we store fat (surplus calories) is largely a combination of gender, age and genetic inheritance. Men tend to store fat around their middle (apple shape), whereas women typically store fat around the pelvic region, hips, butt and thighs (pear shape). However, women are prone to develop an apple shape in mid-life, after menopause.
This fight or flight response is incredibly clever and thoroughly efficient. It provides instant energy for 5-10 minutes allowing you to react swiftly to dangerous situations.
All fat is not created equal, however. Men gather fat primarily on their stomachs (upper abdomen) and chest areas. Women gather fat primarily on their upper and lower abdomen areas and down into their crotches, hips, waist, thighs & buttocks.
The most dangerous abdominal fat is the kind you can’t see – the fat inside the abdominal cavity that surrounds your internal organs. Even lean women can carry too much fat inside their abdominal cavities.

- Eating large meals leaves you lethargic and causes the body to store excess energy in the form of glycogen as fat.
- Eating small amounts but often increases the bodies metabolism and reduces the bodies need to store energy as fat.
- Eating five small meals a day will keep you from going hungry and keep your energy system firing.
- Coupled with exercise and plenty of water will further increase the metabolism and increase burning and breakdown of fat cells from around the middle.
- Any product that causes stress or stimulates the body in to a fight or fright response causes fat to be stored. This is something we have inherited from our hunter and gatherer ancestors.
- Reduce animal fats and trans fats.
- Avoid alcohol.
- Eat good carbohydrates : inimize eating processed, refined carbs like white bread, bagels, muffins, pasta, cookies and cakes; they are linked to larger waistlines. Eat whole grains (that means cooked brown rice, barley, quinoa and the like.)
- Do cardio nearly every day.
- Work out at higher intensities.

Having good health is the ‘hidden fortune’ for future prosperity. Without energy and vitalism which comes from good health you are limiting yourself to how much you can achieve. It is important to stay active and complete a minimum 30 minutes activity a day as recommended by all leading health experts.

Date is the name of the fruit of the Date Palm, which is believed to have originated somewhere in the desert oases of northern Africa and, perhaps, southwest Asia.
A serving of power-packed dates contains 31 grams of carbohydrates, making them a powerhouse of energy. Carbohydrates include 3 grams of dietary fiber and 29 grams of naturally occurring sugars such as fructose, glucose and sucrose to provide quick energy and are readily used by the body. Dates are a perfect energy boosting snack.
Dates are one of the best natural sources of potassium. Dates also contain a variety of B-complex vitamins – thiamin, riboflavin, niacin, vitamin B-6 and pantothenic acid.

Health Benefits of Dates :
- Great energy booster.
- Dates get digested very quickly, that’s why they can be used for quick energy and repairing wastes.
- Dates are also excellent remedy for alcoholic intoxication.
- The date is a laxative food. It is highly beneficial in the treatment of constipation as the roughage provided by it stimulates sluggish bowels.
- Dates are an effective remedy for weak heart. Dates soaked overnight in water and crushed in the same water in the morning after removing the seeds should be taken at least twice a week in this condition. It will strengthen the heart.
- Dates are Rich in Potassium and Low in Sodium.
- Researches have revealed that dates are effective in preventing abdominal cancer.
- Dates have a tonic effect and thus, hold value as medicines.

However, as a precaution, dates require great care for selection. The sticky surface of the date attracts dust and impurities of the air to settle there. It is, therefore, advisable to purchase the best varieties in good packing condition and to wash them thoroughly before use.
- When you select dates, always make sure they are evenly colored and fleshy. A dry, withered-looking date has neither any taste nor nutritional benefits.
- Ensure there are no sugar formations on the exterior part of a date. This usually happens around a dry date fruit and is absolutely not suitable to eat.

Pregnancy brings about a lot of changes in a woman’s body. The first trimester can bring nausea and sometimes vomiting. By the time the second trimester rolls around, the woman is feeling much better. Then as she is ready to enter her third and final trimester, she begins to get indigestion. This is quite common, but very uncomfortable. Indigestion can even go on so long that you can’t sleep at night. There are things women can do to remedy the discomfort.

Causes of indigestion during pregnancy :
One of the chief culprits behind heartburn and other digestive problems is the hormone progesterone. Progesterone decreases your muscle tone and can relax the muscles of the stomach to slow the emptying time.
The stomach also gets pushed up so much during the last trimester that it sits much higher than normal and food contents can be pushed up into your esophagus. When this happens, the valve allows food particles or stomach acid to sit in your esophagus. This can cause heartburn and indigestion.

What you can do to treat Indigestion during pregnancy ?

- Drink plenty of water.
- Add fiber to your diet : The recommended amount of fiber in an adult diet is 25-35 grams per day. If you are pregnant, you might benefit from adding another 15% (or 3-5 grams) per day. Foods that are rich in fiber include whole grains, popcorn, and raw vegetables.
- Walk, Don’t Talk : Pregnant women are often advised to take a walk right after their meals. Also, they must eat five or six small meals each day, instead of three large ones; that way the amount of pressure put on the stomach to digest the food is decreased.
- Peppermint : It is available quite easily and is an excellent cure for indigestion and causes no side effects on either you or your child. So when you feel like you may get another bout of indigestion, make yourself a cup of peppermint tea.
- Avoid eating or drinking things that encourage the valve in the esophagus to relax further. These include greasy or fatty foods, chocolate, caffeine, carbonated drinks, tomato products, citrus juice, peppermint and spearmint, alcohol, onion, garlic, and spicy foods.
- Sit up straight while eating.
- Reduce your stress level by taking time out for something you enjoy, such as a warm bath, a good book, or a chat with a friend.
- Commit to not smoking or drinking alcohol.
- Raise the head of your bed by placing wooden wedges under the legs.
- Talk with your doctor about which antacids are safe during pregnancy, such as calcium carbonate (Tums).

Autonomic neuropathy affects the nerves that control the heart, regulate blood pressure, and control blood glucose levels. Autonomic neuropathy also affects other internal organs, causing problems with digestion, respiratory function, urination, sexual response, and vision.

Symptoms vary depending on the nerve(s) affected. They usually develop gradually over years.
- Digestive tract :
* Constipation
* Diarrhea
* Feeling full after only a few bites (early satiety)
* Nausea after eating
* Swollen abdomen
* Unintentional loss of more than 5% of body weight
* Vomiting of undigested food
- Heart :
* Sensation of what is going on in the heart is blunted.
* Blood pressure changes with position.
* Dizziness that occurs when standing up.
* Lacking oxygen, the heart feels pained, a condition called angina. But a diabetic may not feel anything, or realize anything is wrong.
- Urinary tract :
* Difficulty beginning to urinate.
* Feeling of incomplete bladder emptying.
* Urinary incontinence (overflow incontinence).
- Other symptoms :
* Abnormal sweating
* Fainting
* Heat intolerance, induced by exercise
* Male impotence
Occasionally, other symptoms may indicate a problem in the function of the autonomic nervous system, including:
* Difficulty swallowing
* Excessive sweating
* Irregular heart rhythms
* High blood pressure
* Rapid or slow heart rate

Treatment is supportive and may need to be long-term. Several treatments may be attempted before a successful one is found.
* Florinef and salt tablets to increase fluid volume in blood vessels.
* Fludrocortisone or similar medications to reduce postural hypotension.
* Medications to help with salt and fluid retention.
* Proamatine to prevent a drop in blood pressure when standing.
* Sleeping with the head raised.
* Use of elastic stockings.
Treatments for reduced gastric motility include:
* Medications that increase gastric motility (such as Reglan).
* Sleeping with the head raised.
* Small, frequent meals.

For people who have diabetes type 2, and have had to learn about sugar control, glycemic index, insulin, insulin sensitivity, there is a lot of worry about what does alcohol intake mean for those who suffer from diabetes ? There are so many conflicting trends with alcohol -
- Supposedly, alcohol in small quantities is helpful, especially drinks such as wine
- If you are drinking alcohol, then drinking a small amount of alcohol on a regular basis has positive effects on the chance of getting heart attacks, strokes, etc.
- Drinking beer (along with the associated fast food, chips, etc) can be bad for your health because of the calorific intake of food that is not healthy
- Drinking more than moderate amounts of alcohol on a regular basis (especially binge drinking) is harmful

This complicates life for diabetics, who need to figure out whether they can drink harmful. So, is there a simple answer ? Well, guess you expected it – No. The simple answer is that it depends on what your complications are from diabetes; so if you are getting your diabetes checked on a regular basis with a doctor, questions about alcohol intake should be checked with a doctor. Below are some generic notes on the subject to help your awareness level.

- Drinking moderate amounts of alcohol (such as wine, or hard drinks such as whiskey, rum, vodka, etc) is fine. In fact, small quantities of alcohol on a regular basis can help in terms of decreased risk for coronary disease, strokes, and help with insulin sensitivity. However, keep in mind that there is right now not much in terms of cause and effect medical studies to explain this; these conclusions are based on doing statistical analysis on a large number of patients (in the above case, moderate means 2 12oz amounts of beer, or 2 pegs of hard alcohol)
- Drinking larger amounts of alcohol on a regular basis is harmful
- Because the liver helps in generating glucose if blood sugar levels drop, this helps in preventing low blood sugar levels. However, with alcohol in the body, the liver treats this alcohol as a toxin and switches to cleaning the blood as a top priority. This means that if the blood sugar level drops, the liver will not help, and this increases the change of ending up with low levels of blood sugar. If you are drinking, make sure that you are not doing this on an empty stomach, and it may help to actually consume a light snack before going to sleep.
- Exercise helps in reducing blood sugar, so if you are going in for heavy exercise, followed by some time at the club consuming some type of alcohol, you could be risking low levels of blood sugar (since in both cases, you blood sugar level would drop)
- When you drink, especially something like beer (which is mostly empty calories), and you are trying to lose weight, you are actually under-cutting your weight reduction efforts
- When people drink stuff other than beer or wine, they usually add something to their drink (this could be a soda to the drink, or a cocktail), then unless you are adding a diet drink, you could be actually consuming a fair amount of sugar that you don’t even think about
- Heavy drinking has bad effects on your liver, and decreases the effectiveness of the liver in being able to pump glucose into your blood stream when the blood sugar level decreases
- In some cases, alcohol should not be drunk at all
A) When you are having nerve damage due to diabetes; in such cases the alcohol attacks the nerves causing more pain and damage. This is not related to high levels of drinking, and happens even when you are drinking moderately
B) If you have eye damage due to diabetes, reduce the alcohol intake, or cut it out altogether
C) For diabetics, there is a worry about a type of fat in the blood called triglyceride. These need to be under control, but for a number of diabetics, this is not the case. Alcohol intake causes more problems with triglyceride; hence alcohol intake should be cut or stopped.
D) If you have high blood pressure, then reduce or cut the alcohol intake.
