What are different home remedies for treating Gingivitis?



What is meant by Gingivitis?

• Gingivitis is also known as bleeding gums.
• It is the inflammation of gums due to bad oral hygiene.
• It is one of the periodontal diseases.
• This condition affects the tissues surrounding teeth and gums.
• Gingivitis can lead to more serious gum problems like periodontitis and may eventually lead to the destruction of bone and tooth loss, if left untreated.

Symptoms of Gingivitis

• Inflammation
• Swelling
• Redness
• Pain
• Possible bleeding of the gums
• Bad breath or halitosis
• Discoloration of the gums
• Structural changes

Home Remedies for Gingivitis

• Use of products made from essential oils helps cure gingivitis.
1. Homemade Saline Solution
• Gargle twice a day by a homemade saline solution
• This homemade solution can be made by putting a pinch of salt in a glass of lukewarm water.
• This will reduce the swelling in your mouth.

2. Rub your gums with clove oil
• Keep one or clove in your mouth.

3. Use anti bacterial mouth wash to reduce the swelling on the gums.
4. Use toothpaste containing sage oil, peppermint oil

5. Aloe vera
• Aloe vera is another most useful remedy for curing gingivitis.
• Rub the pulp of aloe vera in the mouth.
• Gargle with water and rubbing it.
• This process must be repeated for a few times.

6. Baking soda
• Make a paste with water and baking soda.
• Dab it on the afflicted area with your finger.
• Now brush your teeth with herbal powder.
• It accelerates healing and neutralizes bacteria activity.

7. Cranberry juice
• Cranberry juice is a useful home remedy for gingivitis.
• Consumption of cranberry juice is beneficial.
• Do ensure that it doesn’t have sugar.

8. Oak bark herbal powder
• Take two parts of white oak bark herbal powder, one part of myrrh herbal powder, ¾ part peppermint leaves’ powder, 1/8 th part of clove powder.
• Grind them all and place it into the air tight jar.
• Every time in the morning and at night, use this powder in the dosage of one tbsp.
• Keep this in mouth and rub it on the affected area.
• This will be good for treating the gingivitis.
• This is one of the best home remedies for gingivitis.

9. Use mouthwash containing
• sage oil
• peppermint oil
• menthol
• chamomile tincture

Diet for Gingivitis

1. Take Vitamin C Rich Diet
• Gingivitis patients should consume low saturated fats.
• They must include lots of fresh fruits.
• They should include rich vegetables in their diet.
• They must eat a diet rich in fiber.
• People deficient in Vitamin C are at increased risk for periodontal disease.
• They must take Vitamin C supplements to improve the gum health.
• Eating vitamin C rich foods is beneficial.

2. Foods to be avoided are:
• Sugar
• Fruit juices
• White flour
• White rice
• Soft drinks
• Syrups

What are different home remedies for bad breath? – Part 2

Introduction :
- Bad breath is an embarrassing problem.
- An unusual breath odor may be a sign of illness.
- bad breath is medically termed halitosis.
- It is usually related to poor oral hygiene or poor digestion, sometimes both.

The illness includes:
- a herpes infection of the mouth,
- diabetes,
- postnasal drip,
- tonsillitis,
- sinusitis,
- dental infection,
- strep throat,
- liver or kidney failure,
- a lung abscess.

Causes of Bad Breath
- Food, particularly those high in protein
- Not eating breakfast
- Smoking
- Antihistamines and other drugs or medications
- Sinus problems
- Mouth sores
- Tooth infections or gum disease (gingivitis)
- Stress
- Dehydration
- Significant talking
- Zinc deficiency
- Gastrointestinal disorders (indigestion or stomach problems)
- Serious illnesses such as cancer, tuberculosis, or syphillis

Home Remedies for Bad Breath
- Baking soda is a fantastic remedy for bad breath.
- It changes the pH (acidity) level in your mouth.
- This provides an environment that is not friendly odor-causing bacteria.
- Simply add some baking soda onto your toothbrush, brush with it, and then rinse with water.
- Another option is to purchase toothpastes that already contain a small amount of baking soda.
- It is also important to brush the top of your tongue with your toothbrush every morning.
- This helps dislodge many odorous particles that contribute to bad breath.
- Tea Tree Oil is a natural cure for bad breath when used as a toothpaste additive.
- Simply add a drop of the oil to your toothpaste right before you brush.
- You can also create a Tea Tree Oil mouthwash by adding 3 drops of the oil to a cup of warm water.
- Gargle this solution two to three times a day, preferably after each meal.
- Bad breath is often simply the result of a dry mouth.
- Simply eating a citrus fruit that is high in citric acid (such as an orange, lemon, or grapefruit) can help improve your breath significantly.
- The acid in such fruits stimulates the saliva, which helps suppress some of the odor-causing bacteria.
- The tangy taste of such fruits leaves the mouth smelling fresh.
- Try probiotics tablets .
- Daily consumption of unheated extra virgin olive oil has helped me against bad breath and smell from nose.

General Home Remedies
- Brush your teeth with baking soda or lemon juice (i prefer lemon juice).
- Brush your tongue.
- Gargle your mouth with salt water.
- Avoid cheese.
- Cheese forms a layer on the tongue and makes the breath smell.
- Gargle your mouth with water before every meal.
- Brush your teeth after every meal.
- The pieces of food you chew may get stuck on your teeth and so eliminate them by brushing.
- Go to visit a dentist if the smell is consistent and more.
- Avoid sweet foods and if eaten wash your mouth immediately so that they are not accumulated in the dentures.
- Try Listerine and other mouthwashes.
- One can also have cardamom seeds, cloves or a mouth freshner like betel nuts which freshens up the mouth and also improves digestion.
