INTRODUCTION TO ASTHMA
• Asthma is a chronic lung condition in which inflammation of the airways or bronchi, affects the way air enters and leaves the lungs.
• This leads to disrupted breathing.
• Asthma is an ancient Greek word that meant “panting or short drawn breath”.
• It is the most troublesome of the respiratory diseases.
• People with asthma have extra sensitive or hyper responsive airways.
• The airways become narrow or obstructed when they become irritated.
• This makes it difficult for the air to move in and out.

SYMPTOMS OF ASTHMA
- a dry, rattling cough
- an over-accumulation of mucous
- feeling as if they’re having to swallow around a golf ball-like mass in the throat
- a tickle in throat triggering a cough, especially when trying to take a deep breath
- coughing, even to the point of expelling mucous
- difficulty catching the breath, especially from exertion, or being indoors in stuffy rooms

HOME REMEDIES FOR ASTHMA

10. Licorice root tea
• Take a cup of hot water and put half a teaspoon of licorice root tea in it and wait for 10 minutes.
• Strain and drink this tea.
• This remedy is one of the best home remedies for asthma.

11. Cloves
• Boil 4-5 cloves in 125 ml of water.
• Add one teaspoonful of honey and drink the mixture twice or thrice a day.
• This is a good home remedy for asthma.

12. Spiegel seed
• Take 1-2 teaspoonfuls of Spiegel seed with warm water twice a day.
• This will help in minimizing asthma attacks.
• This is considered as an effective asthma remedy.

13. Dry grapes (raisins)
• Soak dry grapes in water at night and keep in cold milk for half an hour and chew them.
• In the remaining water add a little sugar and drink it.
• In a month the lungs will be strengthened and poisonous wastes will be removed from the body.

14. Powder of ginger and pepper and honey
Mix one gram of dry ginger powder and one gram of black pepper in one teaspoon of molasses of honey.

15. Borax
• Take grind kheel of borax which is made by heating borax in an iron vessel so that it spreads and store in a bottle and dilute it.
• Take half gram to one gram of it twice or thrice with honey or warm water.

16. Honey and olive oil
• Boil one teaspoon of pure honey, 1 teaspoon of olive oil, half a cup of milk, and some garlic clove.
• Drink everyday this boiled mixture.
• This is an effective natural remedy for asthma.

17. Fenugreek seeds
• Boil some fenugreek seeds in 250 ml of water.
• Remove from flame when one-third of it is left.
• Add one teaspoonful of ginger juice and one teaspoonful of honey in it.
• It is highly beneficial for the asthma patients.

18. Turmeric and honey
• Turmeric can be taken along with honey in the morning on empty stomach to reduce the intensity of attack.
• It is one of the most useful natural remedy for asthma.

19. Fennel seeds
• Regular chewing of fennel helps expel infected mucous from the chest. This helps in preventing asthma attacks.

20. Dry pomegranate
• Peel dry pomegranate and keep them in a jar.
• Boil two raisins and some part of the peel in 250 ml of milk.
• Drink this milk twice a day.
• This is one of the good asthma remedies.

21. Linseeds
• Boil 20 grams of linseed in 300 grams of water.
• When one-third of water is left, sieve and add 10 grams of sugar candy.
• Drink one teaspoonful many times in an hour.
• This will help in the excretion of mucous that has dried up in the chest.
• This is also good home remedy for asthma.

22. Essential oil of juniper
• A few drops in hot water can act as good inhalant.
• It should not be used undiluted on the skin or handkerchief.

• It is the most troublesome of the respiratory diseases.
• People with asthma have extra sensitive or hyper responsive airways.
• The airways become narrow or obstructed when they become irritated.
• This makes it difficult for the air to move in and out.

SYMPTOMS OF ASTHMA

The underlying emotional state is related to:
- sadness, loss or grief
- loss of trust
- disappointment
- irritability

The narrowing or obstruction of the airways is caused by:
- Airway inflammation
- Broncho-constriction
- Lack of exercise
- Genetic factors
- Dietary changes
- Occupational exposure

Environmental factors like:
• Dust
• cigarette smoke
• Fumes
• House dust mites
• Pollen
• Medicines
• Certain other allergic foods

HOME REMEDIES FOR ASTHMA

1. Bath
• The patient should perspire through steam bath, hot footbath, hot hipbath and sunbath.
• This will stimulate the skin and relieve congested lungs.

2. Honey
• Honey is considered highly beneficial in the treatment of asthma.
• At the time of asthma attack, a jug full of honey should be placed under the nose of patient.
• Within few minutes the patient would start breathing easily.
• One can also mix 1 teaspoon honey in a glass of water and have it 3 times a day.
• This is very good home remedy for asthma.

3. Garlic
• The patient should be given garlic cloves that are boiled in thirty grams of milk daily.

4. Ginger
• Steaming ginger tea with minced garlic cloves should be given twice a day every morning and evening

5. Turmeric
• A teaspoonful of turmeric powder with a glass of milk 2-3 times a day is recommended.
• It is highly beneficial when taken on an empty stomach.

6. Mustard oil
• During the attack, mustard oil mixed with little camphor should be massaged over the back of the chest.

7. Steam with caraway seeds
• The patient should also be made to inhale steam from boiling water mixed with ajwain (caraway seeds).
• This is one of the simplest asthma treatments.

8. Honey and lemon and radish
• Blend radish, honey and lemon juice together in a blender.
• Mix for about 20 minutes and cook in small pan on less heat.
• Take one teaspoon of it in the morning daily.
• This is good asthma remedy.

9. General tips
• Air, sun and water are also great healing agents.
• The patient should sit in fresh air for sometime daily.
• Try to avoid dusty places, exposure to cold, mental worries and tensions.
