What are different home remedies for treating Laryngitis?

What is meant by Laryngitis?

• Laryngitis is the term used to describe a condition in which inflammation of the larynx results in a loss of voice.
• It is caused by a viral infection.
• Laryngitis can be accompanied by a sore throat and hoarseness, making it difficult to speak.

Home remedies for Laryngitis

1. Hydration
• Drink plenty of water.
• This will help your throat stay moist.
• This will lubricate the larynx.
• Sip eight to 12 glasses each day to speed your recovery.

2. Fruit Juice
• Fruit juice works equally well as do herbal teas.

3. Hot tea with honey
• Hot tea with honey is beneficial for a sore throat.
• The warmth from the tea soothes the irritated throat tissues.

4. Honey
• Honey acts as a natural antibacterial agent.
• Honey creates a hostile environment for bacterial growth.
• It is best to avoid dehydrating drinks such as coffee, caffeinated soda, or those with alcohol as they only exacerbate the condition.

5. Lemon
• Lemon juice stimulates the production of saliva.
• Lemon juice is highly acidic and few microorganisms can survive when surrounded by it.
• Take one tablespoon of lemon juice four to six times a day.
• Mix the lemon in with water or adding it to a cup of honey-sweetened hot tea.
• Remove the peel from a lemon and drop the whole fruit into boiling water for five minutes.
• Then remove the boiled lemon from the water.
• Squeeze it to remove the juice.
• Mix one cup of honey into the warm lemon juice.
• Take two tablespoons every four hours to relieve your laryngitis symptoms.

6. Steam
• Dry air can aggravate this situation.
• If one lives in a dry climate or if the indoor climate is heated with blown air, this can alleviate laryngitis symptoms with moisture.
• Turn the shower on before you step in and allow yourself to enjoy a long, steamy session, inhaling the warm, moist air.
• Bring a kettle of water to a boil.
• Fill a large bowl with the hot water.
• Drape a towel around the head and lean over the bowl, trapping the steam inside the cloth.
• Breathe deeply for 10 minutes or until the water cools.

7. Salt
• A saltwater gargle helps to heal infected and inflamed vocal cords and sore throats.
• Add 1/2 teaspoon salt to 1 cup warm water.
• Gargle several times a day as needed.
• Be careful to use the correct amount of salt.
• Gargling with a solution as salty as the sea will only increase the irritation.

8. Vinegar
• Viruses and bacteria dread an acidic environment.
• Gargling with vinegar, a weak acid, can wipe out many infectious organisms.
• Pour equal amounts of vinegar and water into a cup and mix.
• Gargle two to four times a day.

9. Soap and water
• Laryngitis can be caused by a viral infection.
• It is easily spread by hand-to-hand contact or by touching contaminated surfaces.
• Avoiding such germs is one of the best ways to prevent laryngitis.
• Be sure in washing the hands with warm water and soap.
