What are different home remedies for Athletes foot? – Part 1



WHAT IS ATHLETE’S FOOT?
• Athlete’s foot is a common dermatitis of the webs of the toes and soles of the feet.
• Athlete’s foot is a very common skin condition that affects the sole of the foot and the skin between the toes.
• It is usually a scaly, red, itchy eruption and occasionally may be weepy and oozing.
• Athlete’s foot may spread to the palm, groin, and body especially when it is due to fungus.
• Fungal infections of the feet are contagious and can be spread person to person.
• They can spread even by walking on contaminated objects and floors.
• Athlete’s foot may cause foot itching, burning, pain, and scaling.
• It can be treated with antifungal medications that are available over the counter, when the cause is fungus.
• Keeping the feet dry by using cotton socks and breathable shoes can help prevent athlete’s foot.
• The medical name for athlete’s foot caused by a fungus is tinea pedis.

COMMON REMEDIES ARE:
• Dilute vinegar soaks or sprays (roughly one part white household vinegar to four parts water).
• Dilute Clorox baths or soaks (approximately ¼ cup household Clorox bleach in one bathtub of water).

HOME REMEDIES FOR ATHLETE’S FOOT

1. Tea Tree oil with Antifungal Properties
• Prepare a solution of water and white vinegar – one part of white vinegar to four part of water.
• Soak your feet for 20 to 30 minutes twice day.
• Sprinkle some baking soda between your toe fingers and rinse your feet after fifteen minutes.
• It is as effective as an expensive antifungal powder.
• Rub tea tree oil between your toe fingers, it has anti-fungal properties.
• For immediate relief from itching or burning, soak your feet in an antiseptic mouthwash like Listerine.
• Corn starch is effective in soaking moisture.
• Keep your toe fingers dry by sprinkling some corn starch on them.

2. Apple Cider Vinegar
• Dilute a cup of apple cider vinegar with an equal amount of water.
• Use this diluted solution to wash the affected skin.
• Apple cider vinegar is acidic in nature and can easily help kill off the fungal strains.
• Undiluted apple cider vinegar may be used for athlete’s foot treatment.

3. Betadine
• Fill a basin with one quart of water and add two spoons of betadine in the basin.
• Soak your feet in the warm water and betadine solution to get rid of any microbes.
• This also helps prevent bacterial infections from spreading in your feet and making you sick.

4. Garlic
• Crush 1 clove of garlic and mix with a few drops of olive oil to make a paste.
• Apply to the nail and leave on for 15 to 30 minutes.
• Clean off in warm, soapy water.
• Dry feet thoroughly.
• Repeat daily.

5. Yogurt
• One of the greatest of all fungus-fighting foods is yogurt that contains live acidophilus.
• Acidophilus helps control vaginal and oral yeast.

What are Cracked Heels?
• Cracked heels are a common problem among men and women.
• Women are more prone to cracked heels as their feet are exposed to dust and rough weather conditions.
• Working with water for long periods and on daily basis can also cause cracked heels.

Causes of Cracked Heels
• Cold winter weather
• Dehydrated skin
• Dry skin
• Non- moisturized feet
• Hot baths
• Prolonged Soaking of feet in hot water
• Use of harsh soaps
• Scrubbing feet
• Diabetes

Home remedies for Cracked Heels

8. Lemon Juice and Papaya
• Make a mixture of lemon juice and papaya.
• Apply it on the cracked heels.
• Let it stand there for 20 minutes at least.
• Wash off after 20 minutes.

9. Ripe banana
• Take a super ripe banana that has turned black, and mash it.
• Apply it on the affected areas.
• Let it stand there for 15 minutes at least.
• This helps in quick healing of cracked heels.

10. Paraffin wax
• Take Paraffin wax, and melt it by adding some coconut oil to it.
• Fill in the crack with this mixture while going to bed.
• Wash it off in the morning.
• Administer this around 2 weeks and the cracked heels will disappear.

General home remedies for Cracked heels
• Massage your heels with sesame oil before going to bed.
• Massage your feet with coconut oil every night and at dawn, scrub and rinse it off.
• Take lukewarm water and soak your feet in it for 15 minutes.
• This will loosen the dead skin and later wash it off with a pumice stone.
• Mix raw salt (khada namak) in Luke warm water, and scrub your heels sin it as you soak it.
• This is a natural pedicure for your feet.
• This will exfoliate your feet too.
• After washing your feet, massage with paraffin oil
• Vaseline or hydrogenated vegetable oil will also work very well on cracked heels.
• These oils will keep the feet hydrated.
• Mix turmeric, tulsi and camphor in equal parts along with aloe Vera gel and apply the paste on the heels.
• Just plain aloe Vera gel is also great for cracked heels.
• Mix sodium bicarbonate in lukewarm water and soak your feet in it.
• Wash it off later with a pumice stone.
• This helps in exfoliation too.
• Mix sugar with some oil, (olive, coconut, jojoba oil, just any oil) and scrub your feet with it.
• It is the sweetest cure for cracked heels.
• Drink a lot of water to keep your skin and body hydrated.
• Wear the exact size of footwear.
• Thin soles and backed shoes are not recommended when suffering with cracked heels.
• Moisturize the feet and specifically the heels regularly.
• Keep your feet clean.
• Scrub and Exfoliate them regularly.
• Omega 3 and zinc deficiencies cause cracked heels.
• Wash your feet every time you come home.
• Use good creams and products for your feet too.
• Use powder in your shoes and socks.
• Walk on green grass.
• Avoid working with water for long hours when legs have cracked heels.
• It is best to wear socks or closed footwear like shoes to avoid dust to get into and this helps in healing as well.
