What is Goitre?

• Goitre is a health condition which causes the thyroid glands to swell.
• The thyroid gland is a small butterfly shaped organ that is situated just below the base of neck.
• This condition can cause neck, and voice box to become inflamed and swollen.

Symptoms of Goitre

• Change in the voice
• Hoarseness
• Constricted or tight sensation in the throat
• Coughing
• Difficulty in breathing

Home Remedies and Treatments for Goitre

1. Exercises
• Perform a few neck stretches.
• Perform exercises that are good for the health of the thyroid gland.
• Do health and fitness expert’s aerobic exercises and jogging for thyroid and goiter problems.

2. Dandelion leaves
• Dandelion leaves are usually very effective in bringing down the swelling caused by goitre.
• Warm a few dandelion leaves in a small amount of refined butter.
• Apply them directly on to the swollen area, when still warm.
• Repeat this exercise every day, for around 2 weeks or so.

3. Sorrel leaves
• Prepare a paste from sorrel leaves.
• Add a small amount of olive oil to it.
• Apply this paste on to the swelling.
• Leave it on for a few minutes or so.

4. Watercress
• Make a paste from watercress and spread it over the neck region.
• This should bring the swelling down considerably.

5. Flexseeds
• Flex seeds are good for reducing swelling.
• Heat it in water, grind it and then apply to affected area.

6. Other Treatments
• Massage therapy
• Reflexology
• Acupuncture

Diet for Goitre

• Go on a juice fast for around 3 or 4 days.
• Have any homemade fruit and vegetable juice, which does not have too much sugar or preservatives.
• After the 4th day resume normal diet.
• It is best to eat light foods, till the problem is cured.

Some food items that are recommended for treating goitre faster as they have high iron content are:

What is an Ear Infection?
• Ear infection is experienced by all at some point of time as it is a common problem.
• Adult ear infection results due to the infection in the Eustachian tube.
• This tube is very delicate and is located near the inner ear.
• It plays the important function of connecting the inner ear to the nasal passage.
• Due to this connection, the fluid from the ears drains to maintain the balance of pressure within the body.
• The common reasons of adult ear infection are cold, mucus entering the Eustachian tube and viral or bacterial infections.

Symptoms of Ear Infection
The symptoms of adult ear infection are :
• blocked ears
• feeling of stuffiness of liquids inside the ear
• swelling
• scratchiness in the throat
• dizziness
• fluid begins to drain from the ear
• headaches
• low grade fever
• inability to hear anything in the environment
• trouble in getting proper sleep during the day or even at night
• pain in the ears
• itching inside the ear
• loss of appetite
• partial loss of hearing
• thick mucus discharge
• coughing
• nasal congestion
• vomiting
• irritability
• severe nausea

Home Remedies for Ear Infection

1. Rubbing Alcohol and White Vinegar
• Rinse ears using a cotton ball that is soaked in a mixture of half white vinegar and half rubbing alcohol.
• According to Dr. Emily Senay, a CBS medical correspondent, the vinegar can kill any bacteria lurking in the ear.
• The rubbing alcohol will dry out excess water.

2. Olive Oil
• Warm a few drops of extra virgin olive oil.
• Then place it in ear.
• Cover with a cotton ball to prevent drainage.

3. Hot Compresses
• Hold a heating pad or warm cloth against the painful ear.
• The heat will help evaporate excess water
• It will then reduce pain in the ear.

4. Baby Oil
• Place two to three drops of baby oil into the ears prior to entering the water.
• This can help prevent ear infection.

5. Garlic Oil
• To reduce the inflammation, place two to three drops of garlic oil into the ear canal.
• This can also aid in healing and boost immunity.

6. Blow Dry
• Set your blow dryer to a low heat setting and gently blow into the ear.
• Hold the dryer at least 12 to 18 inches away from the ear.
• This should help eliminate any excess water in the ear.

7. Ear Plugs
• Use ear plugs made for swimmers when you are in the water.
• This will help prevent water from getting in the ear and causing irritation.

8. Apple cider vinegar
• Apple cider vinegar is an effective cure for otitis externa.
• Dilute apple cider vinegar with equal amounts of water and rubbing alcohol and put the solution in to the affected ear.
• Do this 2 times daily.
• It kills all bacteria and fungi.

9. Other additional home remedies
• Mix equal parts of white vinegar, water and hydrogen peroxide solution and put in to the affected ear.
• Application of hot compress on the affected ear reduces pain and soreness.
• Resting one’s ear against a heating pad with a towel in between gives immense relief.
• Cleansing one’s ear with a saline solution is another effective remedy
• Take care not to jump into unclean water as it could contain bacteria.
• Care must be taken to wear a swimmer’s cap to avoid water from entering into the ear canal.
• Swimmers are advised not to poke into or scratch their ears.

Dietary Remedies for Ear Infection

• One of the best natural remedies for ear infections is to increase zinc intake.
• Oysters are the richest source of zinc.
• Improve the immune systems using vitamin C.
• Include citrus fruits in your diet.
• Take vitamin C supplements.
