What are different home remedies for Back Pain? Part 1



Causes of Backache
- Sedentary living habits
- Hazardous work patterns
- Psychological conditions associated with emotional stress.
- Spasms of the muscles
- Bad posture or illness
- Overweight.
- Muscular Tension, Straining of the Joints, Poor Posture.
- Kidney or Prostate Problems, Female Disorders, Influenza.
- Sitting for a Long Time, High Heels.

Backaches can also originate from:
- the nerves
- ligaments
- tendons and joints
- the spine

Home remedies for Back Pain

1.) Backache Treatment using Garlic
- Two or three cloves should be taken every morning to get results.
- Oil prepared from garlic should be rubbed on the back which will give great relief.
- This oil is prepared by frying ten cloves of garlic in 60 ml of oil in a frying pan.
- Any of the oils, which are used as rubefacients, such as mustard oil, sesame oil, and coconut oil can be used.
- They should be fried on a slow fire till they are brown.
- After the oil has cooled, it should be applied vigorously on the back.
- It should then be allowed to remain there for three hours.
- The patient can take a warm-water bath.
- This treatment should be continued for at least fifteen days.

2.) Backache Treatment using Lemon
- The juice of one lemon should be mixed with common salt and taken by the patient twice daily.

3.) Backache Treatment using Chebulic Myroblan
- A small piece of chebulic myroblan should be eaten after meals.

4.) Backache Treatment using Vitamin C
- About 2,000 mg of this vitamin should be taken daily.
- Improvement will be noticeable within two days.
- Vitamin C is also known for its ability to boost the immune system.

5.) Backache Treatment using Potato
- Raw potato is an ancient home remedy for incapacitating pain in the lumbar region.
- Application of raw potato in the form of a poultice has been found very effective.

6.) Avoid Smoking and Tobacco Intake
- Smoking or taking tobacco in any form should be given up.
- They affect the proper functioning of the body.

7.) Hot Fomentation and Alternate Sponging
- Application of heat to the back will also give immediate relief.
- A hot bath is also known for its ability to relieve stress as well as ease muscular tension.
- Allowing hot water to flow down the back is known to be beneficial.

8.) Yogic Asanas are also Useful
Yogic asanas which are beneficial in the treatment of backache are
- Bhujangasana
- Shalabhasana
- Halasana
- Uttanpadasana
- Shavasana

9.) Sleep as Natural Remedy
- Sleep will relax you and give your body the chance to recoup from the day before.
- It will revive and help stimulate the circulation in your back
- It will also give a chance to heal any damaged tissue or muscle.

The diet of those suffering from backache should consist of:
- a salad of raw vegetables such as tomato, carrot, cabbage, cucumber, radish, lettuce.
- at least two steamed or lightly cooked vegetables such as cauliflower, cabbage, carrot, spinach.
- plenty of fruits, except bananas.
- patient should have four meals daily.
- fruit and milk are advised for breakfast.
- steamed vegetables and whole wheat tortilla for lunch.
- fresh fruit or fruit juice in the evening.
- a bowl of raw salad and sprouts during dinner.

Avoid Fatty, Spicy Fried foods and Processed Foods
- fatty, spicy, and fried foods
- curd, sweetmeats and sugar
- condiments
- tea and coffee
- processed food for preservation

Tips for healthy living…Also, bad posture can result to back and neck pain.

Resolve to keep happy and joyous and difficulties will run away from you. Enjoy the journey, enjoy every moment and quit worrying. Tips for healthy living are:

- Drink a pint of water first thing in the morning.
- Eat fresh fruits on your way out in the morning.
- Exercise.
- Drink herbal tea or just simple tea without sugar and milk.
- Eat a handful of nuts.
- Drink fresh juice.
To build up physical endurance:
- Do some cardio training
- Get into some vigorous sweeping, mopping or vacuuming as they burn a significant number of calories.
- Take the stairs instead of elevator.
- Do yoga.
- In sedentary job, take your breaks outdoors and have a brisk and short walk. Concentration and mood is also improved.
- Dance or do aerobics at home.

As one sits in front of the desktop screen or lie in bed working on laptop, you develop the risk of nagging pain in the shoulder. Back and neck pain is a result of prolonged sitting at work.
Problems faced are:
- Back and neck muscle spasm and pain.
- Back and neck soft tissue inflammation.
- Back, neck and shoulder pain on movement and involvement of other muscles.

Bad posture can cause headaches, excessive tension in neck area, chests, shoulders, arms and forearms, back, hips, thighs and legs. From back and neck pain, you can develop pain and numbness in the fingers, wrists or arms.
Good posture is very necessary:
-Fingers should be kept as straight as possible.
- Elbows should be resting at 90-100 degrees.
- Keys on left side of keyboard should be used by left hand. Right hand should not be forced.

Not doing so, can result into:
- wrist pain that moves up to elbow.
- swelling of wrists, numbness and lack of power.
- stiffness of arms and wrists.
- surgery

Things that can be done:
- use an ergonomic office chair with lumbar support.
- adjust the height of the chair so that upper thighs are parallel to floor. Back should be supported and angeled at 120 degree to keep spondylitis away.
