What are Herpes?

• Herpes usually refers to a disease condition that is caused by herpes simplex viruses.
• They typically involve blisters and/or inflammation.
• There are several types of herpes infection which depend upon the location of the infection.
• Herpes labialis is also known as fever blisters or cold sores which involves the development of sores on the lips.
• Herpes keratitis, involves inflammation and the development of lesions on the conjunctiva and the eyelids.
• Herpes zoster is caused by a virus – the varicella zoster virus, which also causes chicken pox.

Symptoms for Herpes

1. Genital Herpes Symptoms
• Pain and itchiness in the genital area.
• Appearance of small red bumps or white blisters.
• Formation of scabs on the affected area of the skin.
• Sores that erupt mainly on the vaginal area, anus, cervix or buttock in women and in men, the affected areas are on the penis, buttocks, scrotum, anus and thighs.
• Burning sensation while urinating.
• Swollen nymph nodes in the groin area.

2. Cold Sores Symptoms
• Blisters on the lips.
• Difficulty in speaking, eating and swallowing.
• Fever.
• Sore throat.
• Swollen lymph nodes in the throat and neck.
• Drooling (in case of children).

3. Chicken Pox Symptoms
• Presence of a red and itchy rash.
• Appearance of liquid-filled blisters.
• Feeling of unease, irritability, restlessness, malaise and general discomfort.
• Severe loss of appetite.
• Fever
• Pain in the abdominal area.
• Headaches, ranging from mild to severe.
• Dry cough.

4. Shingles Symptoms
• Itchiness
• Headaches
• Appearance of a reddish rash.
• Chills and a fever
• Blisters that are filled with fluid.
• Fatigue
• Numbness, pain, tingling and burning.
• General body ache

Home Remedies for Herpes

17. Chicken Pox treatment using Herbal Tea
• A mild sedative herbal tea can also prove beneficial in the treating chicken pox.
• A little cinnamon (cinnamon), honey, and lemon may be added to this tea.
• 1t should be sipped slowly several times a day.
This tea can be prepared from any of the herbs like:
• chamomile (babunah)
• basil (holy basil)
• marigold (zergul)
• lemon balm (billilotan)

18. Catnip tea and molasses
• Use Catnip tea sweetened with molasses
• It reduces fever.

19. Marigold flowers
Mix
• 2 tbs. marigold flowers
• 1 tsp. witch hazel leaves
• 1 cup of water
o Leave it for over night.
o Apply on rash as needed.
o This will relieve the itch of chicken pox.

20. Herbs
Some very powerful herbs are:
• St. John’s wort
• Pau d’arco
• Ginger
• Burdock root
• Echinacea
• Goldenseal

21. Water
• Drink lots of water to prevent dehydration.
• Drink lots of fresh juices.

22. Echinacea and Goldseal
• Use Echinacea and goldenseal extract mixture.
• Echinacea is an immune system booster which can prevent a cold sore outbreak.
• Take one dropper-full a day for about 3 days.
• Also put few drops on a cotton ball and place on the affected area for a few minutes.
• Do this several times a day.

23. Special Herbal Tea
Make a tea with:
• 2 tbs. of queen of the meadow
• 1 tsp. of coltsfoot leaves
• 2 tsp. of marigold flowers
• 2 cups of boiling water
o Leave it in a nonmetallic pot by mixing all ingredients for 20 minutes.
o Take one cup a day.

24. Lemon Balm
• Lemon balm contains a high concentration of polyphenols.
• This helps to minimize herpes outbreaks.
• It can be applied topically in cream form.
• Brew as a tea lemon balm that can be taken internally.
• It has antiviral qualities.

Homeopathic Remedies for Chickenpox

Some very useful homeopathic remedies are:
• Antimonium crudum
• Antimonium tartaricum
• Pulsatilla
• Sulphur
• Rhus tox

Home Remedies for Cold Sores

1. L-Lysine
• This fights virus that causes cold sores.
• Take 500 mg twice a day.

2. Vitamin B complex
• It is very important for healing and immune system functions.
• Take 100 mg of each major B vitamin twice a day.

3. Salt
• Place a small amount of salt on the cold sore.
• Hold it in place with your finger for a minute or two.
• This may be painful but is one of the quickest ways to heal cold sores.

4. Garlic
• Cut garlic in half and place one part on the cold sore.
• A compound in garlic called cold Kyolic has antiviral properties which speed healing.
• Take 2 garlic capsules a day.

5. Use Licorice
• Licorice can actually help inhibit the development of cold sores.
• This effect is attributed to an ingredient in licorice which is known as glycyrrhizic acid.
• Try chewing on a licorice whip.
• Make sure that it is actually made from real licorice.
• Buy some licorice powder and sprinkle it over the sores.

6. Use Cold Milk
• Some naturalists say that cold milk has a role in cold sore treatment
• It can provide relief and even promote healing
• Simply soak a cotton ball or swab in some cold milk and dab it gently over the sore.

7. Witch Hazel
Applying Witch Hazel on sores to get some relief.

8. Use Zinc lozenges
• One of the best ways to prevent cold sores is by sucking on zinc lozenges.
• These lozenges are very good for boosting the immune system.
• They help in preventing cold sores.

9. Use Peppermint Oil
• Use peppermint oil that has been found to be very effective.
• Peppermint oil can penetrate the skin.
• It has powerful antiviral properties and can have a curing effect on cold sores.

10. Oatmeal
• A bath of oatmeal is considered a natural remedy.
• This helps relieving the itch due to chicken pox.
• This bath is prepared by cooking two cups of oatmeal in two liters of water for fifteen minutes.
• This mixture is then put into a cotton cloth bag and a string is tied tightly around the top.
• This bag is allowed to float in a tub of warm water until the water becomes turbid.
• Ensure that the bag is not torn.
• The child with chicken pox can splash and play in the water.
• The pouch of oatmeal can remain in the tub.

11. Chicken Pox treatment using Honey
• The use of honey as an external application has also proved valuable.
• The skin should be smeared with honey.
• This will help in the healing of the disease by about three days.

12. Use Plum Juice
• For getting rid of cold sores on tongue and in the mouth, 2 tablespoons of plum juice freshly squeezed can be used as a mouth rinse.
• A cotton ball can be soaked for some time in the plum juice if the sores are severe.
• This is then used as a compress over the cold sores to relieve pain and inflammation.

13. Pea Water
• Green pea water is another effective remedy.
• This will help in relieving irritation of the skin.
• The water in which fresh peas have been cooked can be used.

14. Use Hydrogen Peroxide
• A good home remedy for cold sores on the tongue is a solution prepared by mixing water with 2 ounces of hydrogen peroxide, one teaspoon of baking soda and five teaspoons of salt.
• This solution can be used to rinse the mouth for at least a minute.
• Do this 4-5 times a day to effectively get rid of cold sores on the tongue.

15. Vitamin E Oil
• The use of vitamin E oil is valuable in relieving irritation associated with chicken pox.
• This oil should be rubbed on the skin.
• It will have a healing effect and fade the marks left by chicken pox due to this application.

16. Carrot and Coriander
• A soup prepared from carrots and coriander has been found beneficial in the treating chicken pox.
• About 100 gms of carrots and 60 gms of fresh coriander should be cut into small pieces.
• Boil all of them for a while.
• The residue should be discarded.
• This soup should be taken once a day for benefit.
