Naps are essential. The child needs energy which is what naps give. Growth spurts depends on an increase in total hours of sleep as well as an increase in the number of daily sleep bouts which are timed from the start of sleep until awakening. It occurs at around 3 weeks, 6 weeks, and 3 months when the baby needs to suckle more often to meet the growing appetite.

- Getting up too often
Sometimes you get up very often during night. The reason behind this can be multiple like hunger, over filled tummy, insects, stuffy nose, bed wetting, excessive activity, scary movies or a new baby.

- Bed wetting
Toddler or small children sleep too soundly and they do not feel the urge to go to toilet. It is not their fault instead limit the intake of liquids in evening and make sure that the kid goes to the bathroom before going to bed. Consult a pediatrician because sometimes frequent bed wetting can be a urinary tract infection.

- Sleep walking
It is more common in children of age group 3-7 years old. It occurs early in night. Room should be kept safe for sleep wanders. One needs to guide the child back to bed without waking because if you wake the child, it can give the child a shock. This problem runs into families but it can indicate the presence of problem such as sleep apnea.

- Nightmares
Frightening dreams can wake up your child very often. Reassure the child that it is just the dream and she should not worry until she goes back to sleep.

- Night terrors
It is the condition in which the child is not fully awake and not aware of your presence. She screams and she is covered with perspiration and heart beats are increased. The child settles down after 15-20 minutes and then goes back to sleep.

Lack of sleep can cause inattentiveness at school, poor memory skills, inconsistent academic performance, irritability, susceptibility to colds and flu, under eye circles, accidents, use of stimulants as sleep substitutes.

- Cardio Problem:
It can be accompanied by fainting or flaking out. Keep a watch for couple of days and if it still continues…seek medical advice.

- Varicose veins:
Veins in legs that are blue, engorged and painful. It needs doctor’s evaluation. Keep a watch for couple of days and if it still continues…seek medical advice.

- Raised cholesterol levels:
Symptoms faced could be lumps on the eye lids. Keep a watch for couple of days and if it still continues…seek medical advice.

The scientific name of flax seeds is Linum Usitatissimum which means very useful. This is a very appropriate name for this fiber rich seed. Similar to sesame seeds in appearance, it is also available in the form of oil.
Flaxseeds are rich in fiber and omega3 fatty acid in the form of alpha linolenic acid, minerals like iron, manganese, copper magnesium and phosphorus it also contains Vitamin B6. For the tiny seeds this indeed is a long list of nutrients which give it the importance it so well deserves in the nutritional chart.
The health benefits of flax seeds are mainly the reason why it has become indispensable to so many cuisines. Some of the health benefits one can get from flax seeds are discussed below.

Anti inflammatory
The main constituent of the flax seed is omega3 fats which is one of the essential fatty acids required but not produced by the body. Omega3 fat is used by the body to produce a specific set of anti inflammatory prostaglandins series 1 and 2 (a chemical associated with pain). Thus an intake of these seeds in the diet can significantly help reduce pain in conditions like rheumatoid arthritis, headaches and other inflammatory conditions.

Cardiovascular health
A flax seed, rich in omega-3 fat which is a poly unsaturated fatty acid, helps in fighting deposits of cholesterol by breaking them down. These cholesterol deposits may cause blood to clot thereby increasing the chances of cardiovascular diseases.

Increase in the concentration
Omega-3 fats have shown to also help in increasing the concentration levels of the brain. Omega 3 fat works by increasing the flexibility of the lipid membranes of the cells allowing a greater number of neurotransmitters to be transferred between nerve cells. This higher level of transfer allows faster simulation or reaction allowing you to think and react faster. This seed has also shown potential in the treatment of attention deficit disorder.

Laxative
Flaxseeds are rich in fiber content because of which it acts as an excellent laxative. Flax seeds are also recommended for any constipation issues.

Post menopausal health
These seeds if taken regularly help in regulating the estrogen levels in women post menopause and help to protect them from coronary heart disorders and bone loss arising out of estrogen imbalance.

Weight loss
Flax seeds are recommended for people trying to lose weight. These tiny seeds expand in the stomach when ingested; therefore, eating these seeds some time before meal can reduce ones appetite significantly, thereby reducing the amount of food eaten.

Prevents cancer
Recent studies have shown that flax seeds have about 27 chemical compounds in them which can prevent cancer. Flax seeds have always been recommended to reduce the possibilities of prostrate cancer and breast cancer, this is due to the impact it has in the production of the sexual hormones. Research has further shown that flax seeds help in preventing the spread of melanoma.

Diabetes
Another health benefit of flax seed is that it helps to regulate the level of insulin in the blood thus helping in maintaining blood sugar levels.

Skin care
Apart from all these health benefits of flax seeds, it is also recommended to overcome dryness of skin. Rich with vitamins and minerals this seed is known to help in treating eczema and psoriasis as well.

Due to the attention that this tiny seed has garnered for it capabilities to ward off a variety of health risks, many research institutes are working further to understand how it functions to help develop life saving drugs. Making it a part of your daily diet can definitely help you to live a healthier life. It is very cost effective and easy to prepare as well, just sprinkle a few seeds over your food or add it in a powdered form to your health drink.

Since ages, onions (Allium cepa) have been an indispensable part of our kitchen requirements. It has become a basic ingredient to a tasty meal, be it raw in salads or fillings, or fried as a spice, it definitely makes all the difference. It’s probably never, that we once considered the benefits we get from onions.

There is a long list of health benefits of onions, which probably is the reason why through the ages onions have become indispensable. Onion contains vitamins A, B and C and other minerals like calcium, Phosphorus, magnesium, sodium, chromium, selenium and potassium. It also contains carbohydrates and some amount of protein and calories. However, the health benefits of onions are mainly due to the presence of the sulphur containing compounds and quercetin which makes it a potent antioxidant.

Some of the various health benefits of onions are discussed below:

- Oral health
If the pungent smell could be excused, onions are known to be very helpful in maintaining oral health and help avoid any form of oral infections and tooth decay.
- Cardiovascular health
Onions are known for their cardiovascular benefits like lowering of blood pressure and cholesterol levels. IT is known to help overcome atherosclerosis, a coronary condition resulting from deposit of fatty acids on the sides of the artery. Onion consumption helps in thinning the blood and there by avoiding and coronary blocks. This anti- coagulating property of onion is mainly attributed to its high sulphide content.

The importance of fluorine in nutrition was realized when high incidence of chronic endemic fluorosis in men and farm animals was detected in 1931 in certain parts of India. Fluorine occurs naturally in the Earth’s crust, water, and food as the negatively charged ion, fluoride (F-). Calcium and fluorine have a strong affinity. These two elements work together, particularly in the outer parts of bones. they are found in the enamel of the teeth and the shiny and highly polished bone surfaces.

Fluorine is pungent and corrosive. It belongs to the same group of elements as chlorine, bromine, and iodine. In the body, it is found in combination with other constituents of the body. Ingested fluorides are completely ionized and rapidly absorbed, and distributed throughout the extracellular fluid in a manner similar to chloride. However, the levels in the blood and tissues are so low that it has been difficult to make any reliable analysis. Fluoride is rapidly excreted in the urine, even by those suffering from severe kidney disease. The relationship of the urinary output of fluorine in comparison to the total intake is complicated and related to the state of the bones.

FUNCTIONS OF FLUORINE IN HUMAN BODY

- Fluorine is essential for the normal mineralization of bones and the formation of dental enamel.
- Fluorine prevents dental caries, by reducing the solubility of the enamel in acids produced by bacteria.
- The biggest importance of fluorine lies in the bones. The bones are formed of various apatite salts and this fluorine forms a major part of these salts.

DEFICIENCY SYMPTOMS OF FLUORINE IN HUMAN BODY

If the fluorine intake increases :
- Teeth show signs of mottling and wide spread damage to the teeth occurs.
- In dental fluorosis, initially the teeth lose their shiny appearance and chalk white patches develop on them. Later patches become yellow, brown or black.
- The skeletal fluorosis in older people affects the bones, tendons and ligaments. This is followed by pain and stiffness or the back, and later joints of both limbs and limitations of neck movements.
Inadequate amount of fluorine result in dental caries.

FOOD SOURCES OF FLUORINE

- Bengal grams, cereals like rice, some leafy vegetables and in dry tea leaves.
- Sea food.
- Cheese.
- Fruits like apples, oranges, mangoes and bananas.

Fluoride taking in large quantities over time slowly poisons the human body. Prolonged intake of treated water that contains more than 2 parts fluoride per million (ppm) can lead to discolored, mottled or brownish enamel on the teeth.
Extremely high concentrations, over 8 ppm can contribute to bone disorders, kidney, liver and adrenal failure as well as the heart, reproductive system and central nervous system.

Life now-a-days is full of stress and worries. Breathing deeply is one of the best medicines to combat day-to-day worries and pressures. It helps in releasing our emotions and frustrations.
Proper breathing has profound effects on our health.

- The breath forms the bridge between the conscious and the subconscious and allows for access and release of deep seated emotional material held in the body.
- Proper breathing helps in eliminating 70% of waste by-products.
- It brings positive thinking in our life.
- Breathwork involves a variety of experiences which act as emotional cleansing tool for our soul.
- It allows to conquer addictive behaviors while healing unresolved issues.
- Stress affects breathing. When repeated, it becomes a generator of hang ups which can result in lack of creativity, low productivity or as emotional unbalance. By practicing breathwork and becoming conscious of the way that we breathe, we can reverse this inhibition, liberating ourselves from the effects of stress.
- Strong relationships can be maintained.
- It helps in controlling and mastering our emotions.
- Relaxing and releasing the breath dissolves tension in the body and mind.

Meditation forms a certain part of this therapy as one gains more and more awareness about his or her body. This helps in resolving unresolved issues within you. Breathing deeply is often considered to be one of the best medicines to combat all day-to-day worries and pressures. It helps in releasing all our pent up emotions and frustrations.
