What is Belching?
• Belching or burping is also medically referred as eructation or ructus.
• It is a process of releasing gas from the digestive tract through the mouth.
• A typical odor or sound may also accompany the process of gas release.
• Belching relieves the abdomen of discomfort caused due to the excess air.
• People resort to belching to expel gas and ease the existing discomfort.

Symptoms of Belching
• nausea,
• vomiting,
• bloating,
• flatulence,
• constipation,
• diarrhea,
• heart burn,
• change in bowel habits,
• emotional stress,
• nervousness,
• anxiety.

Do’s and Dont’s for Belching
• Eating slowly or have small meals.
• Avoiding chewing gum and carbonated drinks.
• Excessive consumption of onions and chocolates may also cause burping.
• Avoid alcohol.
• Reducing stress, following exercise tips.

Home Remedies for Belching

1. Ginger
• Take a small piece of ginger and crush it.
• Boil with a cup of water for few minutes.
• Consume the mixture either after the meals or during the day to cure and prevent belching.
• Use of ginger as spice in the diet is another way of consuming it.
• Soak a piece of ginger in a teaspoon of lemon juice and add salt to it.
• Consume it as taste enhancer with the meals regularly to cure belching.

2. Dried peppermint leaves
• Dried pepper mint leaves also provide one of the effective home remedies for belching.
• Steep a teaspoon of dry peppermint leaves in a cup of boiling water for few minutes.
• Later consume this mixture when it is hot.
• Do this at least twice in a day for improving digestion and preventing belching.

3. Lemon juice and Baking soda
• Prepare a drink by mixing one teaspoon of lemon juice and half teaspoon of baking soda in a glass of cold water.
• Stir and drink quickly.
• This is one of the simplest home remedies for belching.
• It provides immediate relief.

4. Cumin, fennel and celery
• One can prepare a powder or mixture for regular use.
• Roast seeds of cumin, fennel and celery and grind them.
• Sprinkle this powder on salad or food.
• Consume a teaspoon of this powder after meals and swallow it with a cup of water.
• This works as one of the wonderful home remedies for belching.
• Avoid drinking water for at least half an hour after taking this remedy.

5. Papaya
• Eating half papaya in the breakfast is one of the excellent home remedies for belching.
• Papaya contains digestive enzymes which are very good at promoting healthy digestion.
• It also prevents conditions of excessive gas.

6. Fennel seeds
Chewing fennel seeds, one teaspoon, after meals also prevents belching.

7. Mint
Chewing few leaves of mint after meals or eating them in raw form in salad is another simple way to prevent belching.

8. Asafetida
Use of asafetida in cooking as spice is simple and easy way of curing belching problem.

Diet for Belching
• Some foods may initiate belching such as milk and sugars.
- Certain types of vegetables and fruits containing a particular type of starch are not well digested by the stomach.
• These treat bacteria in the stomach such as: beans, lentils, cabbage, bananas, apricots, prunes, onions and sprouts.
• Foods made from whole grains may also cause gas.
• Weight loss, avoid tight clothes and maintain a food diary.
• Avoid smoking or tobacco consumption in any form.
• A walk after meals is excellent to prevent all types of disorders related to digestive system.
• There are certain yoga poses and exercises which are excellent in treating digestive disorders.
• Staying active and maintaining a food diary to check food allergies and intolerant foods is a good practice.
• Getting dentures checked regularly also helps in treating the problem.

• banana,
• apricot,
• onion,
• beans,
• lentils,
• cabbage,
• chocolates,
• beverages.

What are the different home remedies for conjunctivitis?

ABOUT CONJUNCTIVITIS
• Conjunctivitis refers to an inflammation of the conjunctiva which is a thin transparent membrane covering the front of the eye.
• This is also referred to as having ‘sore eyes’.
• It is a very common form of eye trouble.
• It spreads from person to person through direct Contact.
• Overcrowding, dirty surroundings and unhealthy living conditions can cause this epidemic.

Conjunctivitis Symptoms
• Eyeball and underside of the eyelids become inflammed.
• Pus formation.

Causes of Conjunctivitis
• Bacterial or virus infection or eyestrain.
• Catarrhal condition of the system from general toxaemia.

Home Remedies for Conjunctivitis
1. Conjunctivitis treatment using Vegetable Juices
• Raw juices of certain vegetables, especially carrots and spinach, have been found valuable in treating conjunctivitis.
• The combined juices of these two vegetables have proved very effective.
• 200 ml of spinach juice should be mixed with 300 ml of carrot juice and is to be taken daily.
• Raw parsley (prajmoda) juice-200 ml, mixed with 300 ml of carrot juice has also been found beneficial.

2. Conjunctivitis treatment using Indian Gooseberry
• The juice of the Indian gooseberry, mixed with honey, is useful in treating conjunctivitis.
• A cup of this juice should be taken mixed with two teaspoons of honey.
• Take it twice daily in treating this condition.

3. Conjunctivitis treatment using Vitamins
• Vitamins A and B2 have proved useful in treating conjunctivitis.
• The patient should take liberal quantities of natural foods that are rich in these two vitamins.

Foods rich in vitamin A are
- Wholemilk
- Yoghurt
- Butter
- Carrots
- Pumpkin
- Green leafy vegetables
- Tomatoes
- Mangoes
- Papaya

Foods rich in vitamin B2 are
- Green leafy vegetables
- Milk
- Almonds
- Citrus fruits
- Bananas
- Tomatoes

4. Conjunctivitis treatment using Coriander
• A decoction prepared with a handful of dried coriander in 60 ml of water is an excellent eye-wash when having conjunctivitis.
• It is said to relieve burning and reduces pain and swelling.
• This decoction should be sparingly used by persons who are suffering from bronchial asthma and chronic bronchitis.

Conjunctivitis Diet
- Take fresh fruit diet, avoid bananas
• The best way to commence treatment for conjunctivitis is to adopt an exclusive fresh fruit diet for a week.
• Take three meals a day which consists of fresh, juicy seasonal fruits.
• Bananas should not be taken.
• Those with acute conjunctivitis should undertake a juice fast for about three or four days.

- All-fruit diet followed by a restricted diet of chapatis, nuts etc
• The short juice fast may be followed by an all-fruit diet for a further seven days.
• The patient may adopt a restricted diet.
• This diet should consist of fresh fruits, raw mixed-vegetable salad, whole wheat bread or wheat tortilla and steamed vegetables, and nuts.

- Avoid starchy and sugary foods, refined cereals, strong tea ans coffee
• The patient should avoid an excessive intake of starchy and sugary foods.
• white bread, refined cereals, potatoes, puddings, sugar, jams, confectionery, meats, fatty foods, strong tea and coffee, too much salt, condiments, and sauces are the foods that the patient should avoid.

Other Conjunctivitis Treatments
• Warm-water enema.
• Cold water fomentation of the eyes.
• Relaxing, strengthening of eyes by doing eye exercises.
