May 20th, 2010

Sitting continuously for long hours in front of computers is responsible for various health problems including weak eyesight and stress. I am frequent computer user. Of course it’s interesting to know how danger for my health computer can be.

- Lower Back Pain : Wrong type of chair or desk, Right chair an desk but wrong posture, Sitting on the edge of the chair, sitting with all the weight on one buttock by sitting cross legged.
Corrective Measures: Always go for a chair that has a mechanism for lowering and raising the height of the backrest. Never buy a computer chair that has arms rest.
- Neck Pain : While typing when one is moving the neck up and down, left and right too much it causes neck pain.
Corrective Measures: A document holder is a must to restrict neck movement. Take opticians advice and go for special glasses that you can use while in front of the computer. Screen’s height should be adjusted parallel to eyesight – not too high and not too low.
- Hurting Hands : Your hand and wrist ache after working at the computer all day, and they sometimes start feeling numb. It is really important to give your fingers, wrists and hands a break from resting on the keyboard all day. A tennis ball is a great way to do this.
- Strain In the Eyes : Glare from monitor, sun glare directly coming in straight on to the monitor from windows, lighting arrangement of the room are some causes that put strain on the eyes.
Corrective Measures: The correct thing to do is to place the computer table between lights and not directly under them. The best alternative is to switch off the overhead light and switch on the angle poise lamp.

Diagnosis of Cervical Cancer

March 12th, 2010

Doctors recommend that women help reduce their risk of cervical cancer by having regular Pap tests. A Pap test is a simple test used to look at cervical cells. Pap tests can find cervical cancer or abnormal cells that can lead to cervical cancer. To perform a Pap test, a health professional uses a spatula, brush, or cotton swab to collect cells from the cervix The narrow, lower end of the uterus (womb). and cervical canal. The cells are then “smeared” on a slide, preserved with a fixative, stained, and sent to a laboratory for microscopic analysis by a cytopathologist.
If the Pap test results show some problems, then your doctor will perform these tests :

Cone Biopsy

A cone-shaped piece of tissue is removed. The cone biopsy is also a treatment, and can completely remove many precancers and early cancers. More than 90 percent of cervical cancers can be halted with this technique without further treatment. Tissue is removed from the area between the ectocervix and the endocervix. It includes two methods :
- LEEP : A loop electro surgical excision procedure (LEEP) is a procedure done under local anesthesia to remove tissue from the cervix. A LEEP uses an electrically charged wire loop to remove a tissue sample.
- Cold knife cone biopsy : The physician uses a surgical scalpel or laser (intense, focused light beam) to remove abnormal cervical tissue. It is done under general anesthesia.

Colposcopy

The colposcope combines a bright light with a magnifying lens to make tissue easier to see. It is not inserted into the vagina. A colposcopy is usually done in the doctor’s office or clinic. If colposcopy reveals abnormal areas on the cervix, the physician will order a biopsy.

Endocervical Curretage

After the anasthesia is given, a narrow instrument called a curette is inserted into the endocervix and cells are taken.

Dilation And Curettage (D&C)

During a “D&C,” the physician enlarges the cervix (dilation) and scrapes the inside of the uterus and cervical canal (curettage) to remove tissue for microscopic analysis.

Cervicography

It examines a photographic image of the cervix. Cervicography may clarify abnormal Pap test results in women.

How to treat indigestion ?

January 29th, 2010

Indigestion is not a distinct condition, but it may be a sign of an underlying intestinal disorder such as peptic ulcer or gallbladder disease.
Indigestion, also known as upset stomach or dyspepsia, is a painful or burning feeling in the upper abdomen.
Indigestion can be caused by stress, consumption of certain foods or a combination of the two. While there are over-the-counter medications that treat this condition, numerous natural remedies are also effective at lessening the effects of indigestion. They can even prevent the condition from occurring at all.

Symptoms :
- Burning in the stomach or upper abdomen.
- Heartburn
- Abdominal pain, bloating (full feeling), belching and gas, nausea, vomiting, acidic taste, “growling” stomach, and sometimes diarrhea.

Causes :
- A disease or an ulcer in the digestive tract might cause indigestion.
- For most people, it is the result of eating too much, eating too fast, eating high-fat foods, or eating during stressful situations. Indigestion is not caused by excess stomach acid.
- Being tired or stressed, smoking, or drinking too much alcohol or caffeinated beverages can cause indigestion or make it worse.
Sometimes people have persistent indigestion that is not related to any of these factors. This type of indigestion is called functional, or non-ulcer, and is caused by a problem associated with how food moves through the digestive tract.

Treatment :
- Combine 1 tbsp. of ginger and lemon juice with 2 tbsp. of honey in 8 cups of warm water. Mix these ingredients for several minutes until they are adequately joined. Consume this mixture when you begin to feel the effects of indigestion.
- Green tea and herbal tea are very effective in improving digestion.
- Eat 10 to 20 grapes whenever you experience any type of digestion issue. Grapes are very good at relieving indigestion, as well as an upset stomach.
- Add 1 tbsp. of cinnamon to 8 oz.. of cold water, then mix thoroughly. Drink this mixture 1 hour after you have eaten to prevent or relieve indigestion, as well as flatulence.
- Drink 4 oz. of pineapple juice after each meal to prevent any type of digestion problem, including belching, flatulence or bloating. If you experiencing these problems, consume the drink each day, after every meal, until your indigestion has subsided.
- Avoid eating junk food during indigestion. Foods like fizzy
drinks, caffeinated drinks, garlic, alcohol, acid fruits, chocolate, and
tomatoes/tomato products can give you heartburn and indigestion.
- Start taking diet rich in green leafy vegetables.
- Eat small meals so the stomach does not have to work as hard or as long.
- Eat slowly.
- Caffeine causes the stomach to produce more acid, so reduce or avoid foods and beverages that contain caffeine.
- If stress is a trigger for your indigestion, reevaluating your lifestyle may help to reduce stress. Learn new methods for managing stress, such as relaxation and biofeedback techniques.
- Smokers should consider quitting smoking, or at least not smoking right before eating, as smoking can irritate the stomach lining.
- Avoid wearing tight-fitting garments because they tend to compress the stomach, which can cause its contents to enter the esophagus.
- Do not exercise with a full stomach. Rather, exercise before a meal or at least one hour after eating a meal.
- Do not lie down right after eating.
