Too much of stress can damage your health. Stress can be both mentally and emotionally challenging. Following a resilient approach to all the life’s problems and setbacks can make coping easier.

What is resilient approach?
Resilience involves the ability to face change and misfortune with realistic optimism, self confidence, and determination as you make an effort to adjust to and recover from challenges. Resilience helps people to maintain a good mood and protects them against negative thoughts.
Tips for increasing resilience in the face of challenges are:
- Credit should be given to self for the successes.
- Go easy on yourself if you make a mistake. Distract yourself in some other pleasurable activity.
- Try to view a mistake or setback as a learning opportunity.
- Find positive ways of looking to some situation and give away the negative thoughts.
- Be in touch with more positive people.
- Approach stressful situations with more flexibility and creativity.
- Learn the art of compromise in dealing with others.
- Face challenges.
- Embrace change.
- Use a step by step approach to problems.

One way to dissipate stress is by using your body, through the process of relaxing your muscles. When your muscles are tight or tense, the stress level of your body remains high. Shavaasana, also known as muscle relaxation, helps to reduce your stress levels. The way this works is, you focus on the major muscle groups one by one. What you need to do is, for each muscle group, tighten the muscle, keep tight for 20 seconds and slowly relax it. As you slowly relax your muscles, focus on the sensation of relaxation and feel your tension slowly getting released.

Is it possible to reduce problems like anxiety and depression through exercise?
Well yes, and there are some scientific reasons for the same. When stress levels are high, the body releases hormone such as adrenaline and cortisol. During exercise, the level of these hormones is reduced and exercise also leads to production of a chemical called endorphins. These are released by the brain and cause mood elevation and act as painkillers. When you exercise hard there can be a runner’s high, this is caused by endorphins.
The type of exercise is not that important as long as it leads to a workout for example: one of the easiest ways to do this is walking and jogging. This is another reason why elliptical trainers are getting more popular, because the vigorous workout not only help make you more fit but also reduce stress at the same time.

There are a lot of things one can do to get to a good healthy body. You can have a whole book dedicated to tips for maintaining a good health, but in today’s fast paced life, everybody looks for a summary rather than a whole novel. What we will try to do in this post is to look at some of the most common issues that can affect health and provide suggestions on how to overcome these issues.

- One of the major problem that a person face now-a-days is falling hair. Protein is very essential for maintaining good hair. To reduce hair fall, including good quality protein like soyabean or egg whites in the daily diet is very important. Also, taking vitamin B12 and consuming Brewer yeast tablets can help in reducing hair fall.

- Diabetes is getting so common now-a-days. Every second person is suffering from this disease. There are some simple tips that one can do at home to treat diabetes. One teaspoon of jamun powder or fenugreek seeds(methi) in the morning helps to reduce diabetes. Maintaining a good and healthy lifestyle is the most important measure that needs to be taken if one wants to get rid of this disease. Consumption of excess fat from your diet will improve the body’s insulin resistance.

- Constipation is another problem that people are facing now-a-days. To a greater extent, today’s lifestyle is responsible for an irregular bowel functioning. Consumption of junk food is increasing and also the stress level of the human being. Some simple tips to control constipation is to drink plenty of water daily and reduce the caffeine intake. Daily exercise which included walking for at least 45 min to 60 min is important. Also, include fresh vegetable juice in your diet.

- Dull skin can be a fairly common issue now-a-days. Some simple ways to address this issue is by ensuring that you drink enough water and fluids during the day to keep your skin hydrated. Drinking fresh vegetable juice and eating multiple servings of green vegetables and fruits during the day is also required. This needs to be supplemented with adequate amount of proteins, vitamin E and omega 3 supplements.

- To improve cardio vascular health, daily exercise which may include walking for atleast 45 min to 60 min at least 4-5 times a week is very important. In addition to walking, yoga and some breathing exercises three times a week reduces any kind of stress. In your diet, include one or two tbsp of roasted flaxseeds as it helps to increase the good cholesterol levels in the body.

- To improve metabolism, the most important tip that can be followed is eating during the first hour of having woken up. Walking is also very important to improve metabolism. Protein digestion asks the body to burn more calories and hence increasing the metabolism. So, include protein in your diet.

- To increase energy and immunity, instead of taking three big meals like breakfast, lunch, dinner, eat small frequent meals. It improves the digestion and keeps your body energetic. Include vitamin B12 supplements and wheat grass juice at least three to four times in a week.

- Discomfort during menopause is very common. To reduce it, include soya supplement in your diet as it mimics the estrogen function in the body. Also, include vitamin B6 as it prevents bloating.

Proper breathing does not mean that you need to do chanting or be in search of your chi to try meditation. It is a simple way to make you feel more centered; a way to get your mind and body readjusted to a normal healthy lifestyle. The five steps that would help you to breathe properly:

Proper breathing is the most important function that is performed by us. It increases the energy level. Oxygen is an important chemical and is a powerful stimulant. Deep breathing recharges the hemoglobin. Breathe energy as well as air. It will increase the electromagnetic flow into your body, which will bring up suppressed feelings.

- Take out 5 min out of your busy schedule
One needs to take out uninterrupted five minutes out of their schedule. It is usually how long people need to start getting their central nervous system back to normal.

- Sitting Posture
It is not necessary to sit cross legs to start meditation. Sitting on a sturdy chair where your back is in upright position without leaning. Back should be in comfortable position.

- Sense your senses
Do not think and start focusing on your senses. Inhale and exhale in a slow and controlled manner. Listen to the sounds pulsating around you like birds outside your window or traffic in the distance.

- Just eliminate distractions
Space with positive image is very important. All kind of distractions should be eliminated. It is suggested how appropriate colors, smells and images can help you to calm you down and focus on breathing as compared to a cluttered work area. It can bring bad vibes.

- Explore your surroundings
Sometimes, people find it difficult to meditate alone, explore your surroundings and find a group or check out different books, CDs, DVDs and web sites.

- Let your mind be free
Initially you may find it difficult to concentrate in one direction and free your mind from thoughts of work or family. Human mind has a tendency to wander towards the issues that tend to stress you the most. You have to push them aside. Try to find the problems that bothers you and then you will see that it becomes easy to conquer them.

It is common to have headaches during pregnancy, especially in the first quarter and if you have always been susceptible to them, pregnancy can worsen the problem. Headaches during pregnancy are even more painful because their treatment options are more limited. Some women who regularly suffer from chronic headaches, such as migraines, may have fewer episodes of them. Other women who rarely experience any headaches can have them all of a sudden.. And others, who are usually victims of pre-pregnancy, chronic headaches, can have even more.

Causes:
Many women experience headaches during pregnancy, especially in the first and third trimesters. The hormonal changes that affect estrogen levels, along with an increase in blood volume and circulation are the most likely causes.
Headaches during pregnancy are probably caused by hormones and changes in how blood circulates. If you have given to caffeine, it can also make the head pounds. Other possible reasons include fatigue, nasal congestion, high blood pressure, stress and hunger. Headaches can also be caused by excessive sun exposure and dehydration.
Migraines are different. Some women who experience migraines often find they have fewer problems with them during pregnancy. Others find that these painful episodes becoming more frequent and intense when they are pregnant.

Causes of more frequent headaches during pregnancy include:
- Stress, Fatigue
- Low blood sugar
- Dehydration
- Sleep disorders
- Sinus congestion
- Removal of caffeine

Treatment:
Most headache medications such as aspirin and ibuprofen are not recommended for pregnant women. Paracetamol, however, is considered safe for occasional use.
There are few things that can also be tried to cure the headache:

- A cold towel
Apply a warm compress around the eyes and nose for sinus headaches and a cold compress on the base of the neck for tension headaches.
- Treat the cold
Cod and stuffy nose can give you a headache. Try to ease the pain with a steam inhalation with one or two drops of peppermint oil added.
- Beat the heat
Sun exposure, use an umbrella or dupatta to cover the head andd sunglasses to protect the eyes from glare. Drink plenty of water to stay hydrated too.
- Eat little and often
Blood sugar is a common cause of headache. Try eating small, frequent meals. If you are moving, keep some snacks (cookies, fruit, and whole wheat crackers) in the bag.
- Get a massage
Treat yourself and o for a professional massage and shampoo. Massage works especially well for tension headaches, which are based in the muscles of the neck, shoulders and back. If using essential oils, tell the provider you are pregnant. Some essential oils are best avoided during pregnancy.
- Undergo testing
Sometimes pregnancy can affect the eyes, causing headaches. A trip to the ophthalmologist can help.
- Alternative treatments
Experts believe that therapy color green calm of mind and is particularly effective for stress headaches. You can also try yoga and breathing exercises as Anulom viloma eliminate stress.

Some doctors approve taking acetaminophen (Tylenol), but should not take any pain reliever for headache pain, including herbal products, without first consulting a health professional.

While most headaches during pregnancy are harmless, others can be a sign of a more serious problem. In the second or third trimester, headaches may be a sign of preeclampsia, a serious condition that includes high blood pressure.

If you have a migraine for the first time during pregnancy, or if you have a headache that feels unlike any you’ve experienced before, call your healthcare provider to make sure it is not a sign of more serious problems.

Fainting is defined as temporary getting unconscious and then returning to full wakefulness. During fainting, there is a loss of muscle power and one tend to fall or slump. The main cause behind fainting is that some areas in brain are not able to get enough blood supply, oxygen or glucose. The reasons behind this are the changes in heart’s rhythm, not enough blood in blood vessels, inadequate pumping of blood. Other factors include:
- Heart valve conditions
- Structural conditions of heart muscle which if not in proper condition can cause heart attack.
- Impaired circulatory reflexes.
- Environmental factors.
- Stress or some kind of emotional stress.
- Standing for too long.
- Fatigue.
- Some kind of ongoing illness.
- Dehydration.
- Low blood sugar.

SYMPTOMS OF FAINTING
- Unconsciousness.
- Blurred vision and shaky feeling.
- Spots in front of eyes can be seen.
- Low pulse rate.
- Paleness.
- In case of postural fainting, loss of blood or fluid loss is seen.
- In case of cardiac fainting, palpitations, chest pain, shortness of breath, weakness, paleness are observed.
- In case of neurological fainting, headache, loss of balance, double vision, slurred speech are observed.

TREATMENT FOR FAINTING
Diagnosis include physical examination and ECG as preliminary steps. Further tests depend on causes of fainting.
Patients who have a history of fainting should take precautions and contact a primary care practitioner. Fainting is a potential life threatening problem. Patients complaining of fainting should be attached to a heart monitor.
- Self care includes stimulating the person vigorously, check the pulse, encourage the person to lie down for 15-20 minutes.
- Drink lot of water.
- Increase the salt intake.
- Avoid prolonged standing.
- Changes in lifestyle.
- Bypass surgery or angioplasty is used to treat coronary heart disease.
- A pacemaker is an electronic device to control abnormal heart rhythms.
- Refer to a neurologist if conditions are not under control.

Walking is considered to be the best exercise and medicine for slowing the aging process, reducing the chances of illness and slashing down body fat. Walking is the best no stress, no sweat answer to lifelong conditioning. All you need is a good pair of shoes, a little time, a few guidelines from some fitness expert. Walking has always been one of the best ways to strengthen the bones, control your weight, tone your muscles, maintain a good posture and eventually improve your self image.

- Walking involves almost every muscle of the body. Blood circulation to joints is improved and massages the blood vessels keeping them more elastic.
- Walking helps to maintain efficient metabolism.
- Walking in convenient too as you do not need a gym or any special equipment.
- Weight loss from low calorie and especially low carbohydrate diet consist mostly of water and muscle. When the weight returns, it comes back as fat. To avoid getting fatter over time, you must increase your metabolism by exercising daily.
- Walk at a steady and brisk pace as it burns more fat because it burns more calories. Increase your pace over time.
- To lose weight, it is ideal to alternate the walking sessions between high intensity and lower intensity days. Walk on the first day with a steady and moderate pace. Increase your speed the following day. You can also break up your walk with some sets of squats, lunges, bench push ups or other body weight exercises to make it a real cardiovascular and muscle blaster of a workout.
- Make walking a fun and keep it up consistently.
- Slow and casual walking has benefits but you will not get as much out of walking at a very slow pace because we all have a built in mechanical advantage for walking long distances at normal speeds.
- Always walk after each meal. It prevents from building up of fat.
- Climbing two flights of stairs a day burns off half a pound of body fat in a year.

Cervical spine is the most flexible part of the human body.
- Treatments include heat therapy like hot baths, hot water bottles and medication like painkillers and sedatives as well as medicines to reduce swelling. This provides short term relief. The compression can also be removed by stretching the cervical spine. Massages and gentle extension man oeuvres are also effective. Acupuncture is also recommended.
- The neck can be protected from injury with exercises that strengthen the cervical muscles like backstroke swimming, frequent breaks during desk work and a healthy sleeping posture.
- Injections help when pain is acute, irritated nerve roots are tranquilized by anesthetics and inflammations are reduced with steroidal saline solutions. The needle should be properly inserted as any kind of mistake can lead to injuries.

Signs of wear and tear in lumbar region are among the most serious occupational damages in the skeletal system.
- Treatment includes early attrition in which the inter vertebral discs in an infant are supplied with nutrients through blood vessels. Later, the supply lines are lost through strain of learning how to walk. From now on, the inter vertebral disc must support itself through osmosis.
- In the region of lower spine, neural strands emerge from inter vertebral foramina which supply the pelvis and legs. If the cross-section of these foramina is reduced, it becomes a tight squeeze. Disc related ailments are often treated through a process of trial and error – non surgically with immobilization or gymnastics medicinally with local painkillers like procain injections or cortisone.. An open operation in which entire disc is removed is largely avoided. The standard procedure is a micro-operation, during which surgeons introduce instruments and lights through a narrow speculum, monitor the procedure with the help of microscope and remove surplus disc tissue.
- Initially, severe pain should be tackled promptly and decisively in order to regain mobility quickly.
- A systematic strengthening of the musculature in the torso, correct nutrition and ergonomic workplace design can prevent slipped disc problems.

Cervical spine is the most flexible part of human body. The pain in cervical spine is the consequence of lifelong strain, incorrect posture and stress, lack of exercise and excess weight. The spinal nerves emerging from spinal chord that are responsible for arms, head and torso are very close to neural network of nervous system and the arteries that supply the brain. Sudden movements, muscle stiffness, pressure of inter-vertebral discs can lead to compression. This leads to painful cervical vertebral syndrome, which can result in paralysis.

CERVICO-BRACHIAL SYNDROME

Pinched spinal nerve roots are the cause. The pain radiates from the neck across the shoulder and into the hands. The cause is often a shrinking of the inter-vertebral disc, leading to a decline in its buffer function. The dorsal vertebrae are then subjected to a greater amount of strain, and react with osseous neo-formations. The result is bead like or spur shaped marginal spikes which stiffs the neck and press against spinal nerves and the spinal chord. An effective measure is stress reduction and muscle training. This condition is called cervico-brachial syndrome.

LOCAL CERVICAL SYNDROME

The constant bending of head cramps the trapezius muscles that connect the back of the head, vertebrae, collar bones and shoulder blades. The increased muscle tone triggers pain that radiates all the way down to the arms, legs and sternum. If the vertebral arteries or spinal canal are constricted, it can lead to migraine like attacks with headaches, dizziness, tinnitus, impaired vision and swallowing disorders.

THE LUMBAR SPINE

The lumbar vertebrae are located at the lower end of our central axis. It begins with the protrusion of the inter-vertebral disc, which results from the stress on the lower spine. Then, the gelatinous nucleus of the disc pushes against the surrounding fibrous ring. Tiny tears appear and at some point the ring breaks and the gelatinous mass flows out and presses against the nerves or the disc material can spill out. In such situation, developing and strengthening the back muscles is recommended.

THE HIP JOINT OR OSTEOPOROSIS

Osteoporosis or bone loss weakens the entire skeleton among older people but primarily affects the spine and pelvic region. This bone loss does not lead to any symptoms for a long time and is only noticed when some accident or situations related to that occur. Bone degeneration can be especially intensive in women in the first five years after menopause. In such situations, sports and a good amount of exercise to prevent painful curvatures or femoral neck fractures is recommended.

THE KNEE JOINT OR ARTHROSIS

Arhrosis is the deterioration of joints and occurs most often in the knee. Its exposure to extreme lifelong strain causes the cartilaginous buffer to become increasingly thinner, non-elastic and stiff. The surrounding tissue can also later become inflamed, leading to a rough deformation of the contact areas and reduced lubrication at the cartilage. Eventually, there is a risk of the joint becoming stiff. Being overweight is considered a high risk factor which is why doctors recommend weight loss.
